President's Message

Gary Thompson, DVM, DABVP (Canine and Feline), President

We are just over one month away from our Symposium in Chicago and Dr. Nollner, Marisa and the committee are working hard to bring everything together and it is shaping up to be a fantastic program, venue and location. New this year is a dedicated track on Saturday to practice management. The last two years have certainly posed management challenges in veterinary hospitals and as the industry moves forward the ability to adjust and lead is potentially more important than ever. Also new this year is an emergency medicine focused program. As we all know emergencies happen at any time and the topics in the track are applicable to anyone in practice.

If you have never had the chance to visit Chicago, the location on the Magnificent Mile in downtown lives up to its name. You are within walking distance to Navy Pier, the River Walk and only a few blocks from the world famous Shedd Aquarium and Field Museum. If you are a baseball fan, the Chicago Cubs are in town and a Sunday afternoon game at Wrigley Field is a once-in-a-lifetime visit. Regardless of what you choose to do when you are not taking in our amazing program, I am excited to see your face, shake your hand-or bump fists/tap elbows- and experience what I consider to be the most amazing part of Symposium. Seeing old friends, making new ones and getting to experience a great group of people-ABVP Diplomates.

Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Update

Sonnya Dennis, DVM, DABVP (Canine and Feline), MOC Chair

Need help with MOC? Friday, April 22 from 6-8 pm at ABVP Symposium in Chicago!

To upload points requests, go to ABVP.com, click “Member Login” then log in (top right of that screen) then “Access MOC Portal” (left side of that screen).

TIPS

  • Upload all your RVS-specific 2021 CE in a single application!

    • Enter your total points for the year and attach all of your certificates (list all of the lectures if not on the certificate). And, yes! You can do decimals!

    • Remember, you must create a separate application for your NON RVS 2021 CE.

  • You can type in fractions for CE. Use the up and down arrows for whole numbers or type the numbers for decimals.

  • “Needs Information”? You may receive this message if there is something that needs to be clarified on your point request. Just follow the instructions to resubmit or contact your Vice Chair for more information.

  • Be kind to your MOC Vice Chair and scan your documents right side up. These guys are reading oodles of applications, and neatness and clarity will be appreciated.

Are you due to MOC in 2022 or 2023?

  • Check out the MOC Handbook. There are clarifications based on frequently asked questions and examples with pretty pictures!

  • There are 4 areas (summary from the handbook for how many points you need):

Need to contact the MOC Chair or your RVS’s MOC Vice Chair?

Our emails are on page 16 of the MOC Handbook.

See what we did there…  ;)
