For some, 1 April is time for April fool’s day pranks. But for accountants, the date signifies the beginning of a new financial year. For us, it is also the time when we make announcements about promotions in our business and I am very pleased to outline in this newsletter a number of promotions reflecting the skills and expertise that these people bring to their roles. April is also the time we welcome this year's graduates into the business, and if you have read the bios of our recent promotions, you will have noted that most of these people began their careers with us as graduates. Accordingly, look out in a few years’ time for this year’s graduates. Much of our recent newsletters have been dedicated to information to help your business in these challenging times, as well as keeping you up to date with how Polson Higgs is responding. I am therefore, also pleased to report that following ANZAC day we will begin returning Polson Higgs to business as normal (no more working in Zones) as well as reopening the doors to the public. It was a difficult decision to close the office to outside parties in February however, it was thought this was the best approach to keep our clients and staff safe. We look forward to welcoming you back into the building (with appropriate protocols). Enjoy this weeks newsletter, and hopefully a more normal year ahead. Surfing For Farmers Last Thursday was the final Surfing for Farmers event for the season and what a night it was! Surfing for farmers is an initiative that gets farmers off the farm and into the water as an outlet to manage stress and improve well-being. The first surfing for farmers event was held in Gisborne in 2018 and is now available at 21 different locations across New Zealand. Since it's initiation a whopping 4,159 farmers have taken to the water and it's popularity is growing by the season. The best part about this initiative is that getting involved is simple. All you need is some togs, a towel and to get yourself to the location. Wetsuits, surfboards, surf instructor, food, beverages, and good times are provided. This season we managed to get around 20-30 farmers in the water each Thursday evening, which was fantastic to see. Because of our firm belief that investing in your mental health and well-being is the key to living a full, and productive life, it is not surprising that we will be getting behind this fantastic initiative again next season. If surfing for farmers sounds like something you could be interested in or you would like to go ahead and give it a go next season, please register you interest with the Senior Consultant of our rural team, Tom Hanning by emailing tom.hanning@ph.co.nz. Cancer Society - Relay Your Way The 2022 Relay For Life event could not go ahead this year so instead the The Cancer Society encouraged participants to “relay your way”. The Polson Higgs team embraced the challenge and decided to hold an in-office baking relay. Every day for the month of March, a staff volunteer will provide baking that is sold to the team. We raised a total $3,031.80 which will go towards helping people in our community through the Cancer Society’s support services, health promotion programmes and cancer research. We were presented some exceptional treats and morning smoko was certainly something that people looked forward to. As you can see below, we have some very talented bakers in our building!
