2 April 2024

Welcome to subscribers from LCAIM eNews, Local Mission eNews and Professional Standards eNews! These three lists have been closed, and their subscribers have joined the LCA eNews list. Many people have told us we were sending you too many emails and wanted us to include news from every department into one eNews. We are taking steps to fix that. Over the past 12 months, we have been merging all our Churchwide eNews lists into just one – this one, LCA eNews. There are still a few more eNews lists to be merged, and we’ll welcome subscribers from those lists to LCA eNews shortly. So, look forward to LCA eNews becoming your one-stop-shop for news and resources from every mission, ministry and service area of the Churchwide Office. We hope you enjoy the new slimmed-down way of communicating with you. As always, though, we welcome your suggestions for improvement.

In this video, the College of Bishops present a message of hope in times of change, uncertainty and anxiety. We invite you to watch this video and share it with others who are seeking guidance and hope as we prepare for the General Synod and the decision on the Way Forward proposal. Please find a time to show this during or after a worship service.

Details of the improved Safe Church training program will be officially released to the church in LCA eNews on 30 April 2024. Although self-paced training on iLearn will continue to be available, as anticipated, an alternative ‘live online’ format will be launched to accommodate people who prefer a live training experience. Read more

Following a resolution by the LCANZ’s General Church Board (GCB), the Religion and Domestic Violence Report Response Group has been appointed. The group’s primary role will be to collate responses to the Religion and Domestic Violence Report and present recommendations to GCB before the 2024 Convention of General Synod. Read more

The Way Forward working groups are in the development phase of the final framework that will be put to General Synod in October as a proposal for how the LCANZ might operate as one church with two practices of ordination.

Lay delegate assistance

The General Church Board recognises that some parishes financially struggle to send a lay delegate to General Synod and has earmarked limited funding to assist in some cases where the parish is unable to cover expenses. Applications for assistance must be made on the Lay Delegate Assistance application form and received no later than 31 October 2024. Applications and inquiries should be directed to: synod@lca.org.au
