Complete Teaching Assistantship (TA) Profile and/or Advise Your Department

If you hold a priority TA position in the Winter 2024 term, please update your TA Profile in Carleton Central as soon as possible. For more information about completing your TA Profile and accepting assignments, visit the TA Information website. If you hold a priority TA position in the Winter 2024 term, but are either planning not to work as a TA during this term, or are unavailable or unable to take up your TA assignment, please advise your department as soon as possible.

Student Accounts Reminder: Winter Term Fee Payment Deadline is Nov. 25
Click here for important payment information. Late payment charges and late registration charges apply to the student account on or after this date. 

Fall Convocation Diploma Pickup at FGPA Office
If you were unable to attend the fall ceremony, diplomas can be picked up at our office (512 Tory Building) until Nov. 24, 2023. After Nov. 24, your diploma will be mailed to the mailing address listed on Carleton Central. Please review your address on Carleton Central via Carleton360 to ensure it is correct. If you are the recipient of a medal and you were unable to attend your graduation ceremony, your medal will be available for pick up with your diploma as outlined above. Unclaimed medals will be mailed out.

TAs to Complete Fall Pedagogical Training Hours
by Nov. 30

The last day for TAs to complete any Fall 2023 pedagogical training hours (voluntary training) is Nov. 30, 2023.

The 2024 Carleton University Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition Is On!

The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) at Carleton is a university-wide competition for graduate students in which participants present their research and its wider impact in 3 minutes or less to a panel of non-specialist judges. The challenge is to present complex research in an accessible and compelling way, with the assistance of only one static slide. Check out last year's competition here! An information session will be held on Zoom on Friday, Dec. 8, 2023 at 2 p.m. The Carleton 3MT competition will be held in person in March 2024.

First place: $1,000
Second place: $500
Third place: $250
“People’s Choice” prize: $150

Nov. 24, 2023
Last day for summative tests or examinations or formative tests or examinations totaling more than 15% of the final grade in the full fall or fall/winter before the official examination period.

Nov. 25, 2023
Winter Term Fee Payment Deadline. 
Late charges may be applied to the student account any time after this date. Important fee payment information is available at the Student Accounts website.

Nov. 30, 2023
Last day for receipt of applications from potential winter (February) graduates.

Dec. 1, 2023

  • Last day for graduate students to submit their supervisor-approved thesis in examinable form to the department.

  • Last day for summative tests or examinations or formative tests or examinations totaling more than 15% of the final grade in the late fall before the official examination period.

Dec. 8, 2023

  • Last day to pay any remaining fall tuition fees to avoid a hold on access to marks through Carleton Central and the release of transcripts and other official documents.

  • Fall term ends.

  • Last day of full fall and late fall term classes.

  • Last day for take home examinations to be assigned.

Dec. 10-22, 2023

  • Final examinations in full fall and late fall term courses and mid-term examinations in fall/winter courses will be held.

OGS Referee Assessments – Deadline: Dec. 1
A friendly reminder OGS referee assessments are due Dec. 1, 2023. Applicants are responsible for ensuring referee assessments are submitted by the deadline and can monitor the status of the submissions in their application on Carleton Central. If your referees are having issues accessing the online form, please email Jenna McConnell (jenna.mcconnell@carleton.ca).

Canada Graduate Scholarship Master’s Program (CGSM) Deadline Dec. 1, 2023 before 8:00PM EST

 

Did You Know Grad Students Have Their Own Mental Health Counsellor?

Magda Georgescu is a counsellor with Carleton’s Health and Counselling Services who is focused on helping graduate students.

To make a free appointment with Magda, please call the office at 613-520-6674. Once you call, you will speak with a Patient Care Coordinator who will send you an intake and consent form that needs to be completed before speaking with an Intake Counsellor. This intake session can also take place in person at the clinic, if that is your preference, and then you will be able to meet with Magda.

 

International Student Services Office (ISSO)

All About Post-Graduation Work Permits: With the fall term coming to a close; many international students have been inquiring about post-graduation work permits. If you hope to apply for this permit so you can remain in Canada after graduation and get Canadian work experience, we encourage you to attend our next info session on Dec. 4, 2023 from 11 a.m. to noon which is being led by our licensed immigration advisors. We will share information on how to maintain your eligibility, how to properly navigate the process, and how to make the most out of your application.

Carleton’s tunnels are one of the defining features of the campus, a vital piece of campus infrastructure in regards to mobility, a space of social-cultural engagement with important study and social hubs in the Nideyinàn Building, Loeb, and Library tunnel junctions; the tunnels are filled with life, movement, and tunnel carts. 

Our goal is to engage in a documentation and analysis of the tunnel murals, while practicing visual ethnographic methods. This Ethnographic Lab event will be fully interactive and give all participants opportunities to engage in practice. All ethnographic minded students, faculty and community members are invited (classes are welcome to participate, please RVSP to emmabider@cunet.carleton.ca )

 

Call for Mini-Courses Program (MCP) Proposals are Now Open!

The MCP provides students from grades 8 to 11 with the chance to engage with Carleton for a one-week enriched learning experience. The Undergraduate Recruitment Office is looking for enthusiastic faculty, staff, and graduate students interested in teaching an MCP course to a group of bright, young students from April 29 to May 3, 2024. 

Applications are due by Dec. 1, 2023.

Ottawa Science Policy Network (OSPN) Annual Science Policy 101 Event Series

Featuring presentations from experts at the Council of Canadian Academies, Institute for Science Society and Policy (ISSP), Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED), Support Our Science (SOS), and more, this event provides a platform for networking, Q&A sessions, and discussions addressing inquiries into science policy in Canada and career pathways in the field.

Science Diplomacy: Nov. 30, 2023 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Science Advocacy: Dec. 7, 2023 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.

The free seminar series will be presented in a hybrid format, offering in-person lectures at the University of Ottawa STEM Building (uOttawa main campus, 150 Louis-Pasteur Private) or online attendance via Zoom. Secure your spot by registering for in-person or virtual attendance.

 
 

Writing Support by CSAS

Join the Centre for Student Academic Support (CSAS) this Fall 2023 term for their Academic Writing for English Language Learners sessions on Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Pick and choose the session that works for you or join all of them! 

Next session on Nov. 29, 2023 will review tricky prepositions.

Carleton Model NATO 2024 in Ottawa

Carleton Model NATO 2024 is taking place at the Delta Ottawa City Centre Hotel on Feb 22-25, 2024. The 2024 conference theme is, Modernizing NATO on and off the Battlefield. 

Every year since 2002, hundreds of students from universities across North America descend upon the nation's capital to take part in invigorating and thought-provoking simulation of NATO decision-making and crisis management. The conference is hosted by the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs and supported by NATO. 

Apart from discussions and negotiations at various committees, the conference includes visits to embassies of NATO countries, renowned keynote speakers, reception, and other opportunities to expand professional networks within the political and military community of Ottawa.

Registration is now open. Please, register as a delegation of your university/college, or as an individual participant. Early Bird registration rate is available until Nov. 30, 2023.
