Future ideas for the Brougham Street/Moorhouse Avenue area taking shape

We’re emailing to update you on our project to make the Brougham Street/Moorhouse Avenue area safer and easier to live, work and move around in.

This work is gaining momentum, with a range of ideas for the future taking shape.

Our team is working hard to find the right balance while we investigate improvements.

We want to give people travel choices and a sense of place, ensure liveability in one of Christchurch’s busiest areas, and consider the environment, our heritage, key industries and the economy.

We must also keep an eye on the cost of our ideas and consider how they will fit as Christchurch grows, communities form, and new technology creates more change.

Over the past several months, we have engaged with the community and key stakeholders, held workshops and collected information.

We’ve moved from a long list of ideas towards a preferred option which will include optimising the existing network, community liveability, travel demand management measures, and some infrastructure improvements over the next 30 years.

Over the next few months, the project team will carry out detailed assessment, work with key stakeholders, and look for opportunities to make cost effective changes as soon as possible.

We’re aiming to have the preferred option finalised over the coming months.

We expect to bring this back to you and the wider community to get feedback in early 2020.

Thanks again for your interest in this project.

Warm regards,

Haroun Turay and Nilesh Redekar
