LOCAL STUDIES

HALLOWEEN SPECIAL: A VERY HAUNTED HOUSE

Waverley was home to a very famous haunted house in 1939, when Cinesound filmed the musical comedy Gone to the Dogs at their Bondi Junction studio. During filming, residents were confronted with a gorilla with glowing red eyes, a corpse wrapped in linen, and ghosts and skeletons galore. However, newspaper reports said there was "... no need for fear, as all the horrors and mysterious happenings were staged for laughing purposes only and the sequence is but one of the laughter laden scenes in this merry mirthquake." You can watch part of the haunted house sequence here.
