The Upper Namoi Cotton Growers held their Annual Awards dinner last week in Gunnedah, celebrating the achievements of local growers. Winners included Merrilong Agricultural Company as Grower of the Year and Richard and Tom Hudson of Tivoli Pastoral Company for best irrigated crop. The event also recognised top ginned yields from the previous season. Flooding in Queensland has displaced communities and set new records, while persistent wet weather in northwestern NSW has delayed cotton picking and raised concerns about crop quality. The full impact is still unclear, and growers are hoping for drier conditions to minimise further damage. After a period of change and renewal, the Australian cotton industry’s extension program, CottonInfo, has welcomed five new Regional Extension Officers (REOs) to the team. The new team members join CottonInfo’s existing REOs Kieran O’Keefe, Andrew McKay and Annabel Twine bolstering CottonInfo to a full complement of REOs, ensuring across seven growing valleys. ABC International and the Centre for Australia-India Relations hosted a special screening of Landline episodes filmed in India, showcasing the growing demand for high-quality Australian exports, including cotton, almonds, avocados, and wine. Around 40 teachers from seven schools in the Dawson and Callide Valleys recently took part in a Teach the Teacher event in Moura, organised by Cotton Australia's Renee Surawski. The day was all about giving teachers a firsthand look at the cotton industry, from planting to processing. Cotton Australia has been working with the National Fire Ant Eradication Program (NFAEP) to assess the risks posed by Fire Ants to our industry. The NFAEP's pest risk analysis is ongoing, but cotton has not been deemed a significant risk to be included as a carrier material. Farmer health & Safety

Now in 2025, Cotton Australia is working with Better Cotton and Australia’s cotton merchants to introduce physically traceable Better Cotton from Australia this season and will also be working to drive demand for this cotton with its brand and retail partners all over the world. |
