SSHRC Storytellers Contest
The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) has launched its next Storytellers contest!
FGPA will host an information session for grad students interested in entering the competition. All submissions must be based on SSHRC-funded research. The info session will be held online on Monday, Nov. 20, 2023, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Fall Convocation Diploma Pickup at FGPA Office
If you were unable to attend the fall ceremony, diplomas can be picked up at our office (512 Tory Building) until Nov. 24, 2023. After Nov. 24, your diploma will be mailed to the mailing address listed on Carleton Central. Please review your address on Carleton Central via Carleton360 to ensure it is correct. If you are the recipient of a medal and you were unable to attend your graduation ceremony, your medal will be available for pick up with your diploma as outlined above. Unclaimed medals will be mailed out.

TAs to Complete Fall Pedagogical Training Hours
by Nov. 30

The last day for TAs to complete any Fall 2023 pedagogical training hours (voluntary training) is Nov. 30, 2023.

Two Carleton Grad Students Win
Vector Scholarship in Artificial Intelligence

Carleton University master’s students Benjamin Faveri (Political Economy) and David Clarabut (Civil Engineering) have each been awarded a Vector Scholarship in Artificial Intelligence. Valued at $17,500, this scholarship is awarded to top students pursuing an AI master’s in Ontario and is offered by the Vector Institute, one of Canada’s three national AI labs.

Last day for summative tests or examinations or formative tests or examinations totaling more than 15% of the final grade in the full fall or fall/winter before the official examination period.

Nov. 25, 2023
Winter Term Fee Payment Deadline. 
Late charges may be applied to the student account any time after this date. Important fee payment information is available at the Student Accounts website.

Nov. 30, 2023
Last day for receipt of applications from potential winter (February) graduates.

Dec. 1, 2023

  • Last day for graduate students to submit their supervisor-approved thesis in examinable form to the department.

  • Last day for summative tests or examinations or formative tests or examinations totaling more than 15% of the final grade in the late fall before the official examination period.

The 2024 Carleton University Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition Is On!

The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) at Carleton is a university-wide competition for graduate students in which participants present their research and its wider impact in 3 minutes or less to a panel of non-specialist judges. The challenge is to present complex research in an accessible and compelling way, with the assistance of only one static slide. Click here for more information and to register!

Participants will compete for the following prizes:
First place: $1,000
Second place: $500
Third place: $250
“People’s Choice” prize: $150

Mitacs-JSPA Summer Program 2024 – Call for Applications
The Mitacs-JSPS Summer Program, offered in partnership with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), provides opportunities for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in Canada to pursue collaborative research in Japan. This program allows graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in Canada to advance their own research while promoting scientific progress in both Japan and Canada. Full details can be found here.

2024 Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Doctoral Scholarship Competition
The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of its Scholarship competition recognizing excellence in the humanities and social sciences. The PETF Scholarship offers a three-year leadership program designed to train Engaged Leaders, equipping doctoral candidates with the skills to translate their ideas into action, for the betterment of their communities, Canada, and the world. Women in STEM Career Fair

Join Carleton University and 21 leading industry and government partners at our Women in STEM Career Fair on Nov. 23, 2023 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.   
 
The event is for women students in STEM who want to establish and grow their professional network. Attendees will get to speak to representatives who work at leading engineering and IT organizations. Participants will learn: what these organizations do, future employment opportunities, and how to establish employability skills.

Call for Mini-Courses Program (MCP) Proposals are Now Open!

The MCP provides students from grades 8 to 11 with the chance to engage with Carleton for a one-week enriched learning experience. The Undergraduate Recruitment Office is looking for enthusiastic faculty, staff, and graduate students interested in teaching an MCP course to a group of bright, young students from April 29 to May 3, 2024. 

Applications are due by Dec. 1, 2023.

Carleton Model NATO 2024 in Ottawa

Carleton Model NATO 2024 is taking place at the Delta Ottawa City Centre Hotel on Feb 22-25, 2024. The 2024 conference theme is, Modernizing NATO on and off the Battlefield. 

Every year since 2002, hundreds of students from universities across North America descend upon the nation's capital to take part in invigorating and thought-provoking simulation of NATO decision-making and crisis management. The conference is hosted by the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs and supported by NATO. 

Apart from discussions and negotiations at various committees, the conference includes visits to embassies of NATO countries, renowned keynote speakers, reception, and other opportunities to expand professional networks within the political and military community of Ottawa.

Registration is now open. Please, register as a delegation of your university/college, or as an individual participant. Early Bird registration rate is available until Nov. 30, 2023.
