Grey-headed Flying Fox fly-out and information evening Learn more about our native grey-headed flying fox at our FREE information evening on Wednesday 8 June. Watch as the bats fly out for their evening of foraging and learn all about this fascinating animal and what you can do to help protect them. Places are limited, so get in quick! Minimising kitchen waste Collect your FREE kitchen caddy and learn how to minimise waste in your kitchen at Endeavour Hills Library on Saturday 4 June. Fruit tree pruning and care Stumped about how to prune your fruit trees? Come down to Old Cheese on Thursday 2 June, and learn how to prune a variety of fruit trees and protect your plants from common pests and diseases. SUSTAINABILITY AND CLIMATE Joey and the heatwave Teach your kids about heat safety with Enliven Victoria’s child-friendly, climate change adaptation storybook which promote health and safety during heatwaves. BIODIVERSITY Casey flora and fauna spotlight Did you know that Casey is home to one of Australia’s largest bats? The Grey-headed Flying-fox is a threatened species. These fascinating bats drink by swooping low over the surface of the water and collecting droplets on their belly fur that they lick off while flying. World Environment Day 'We only have one Earth' is the theme for this year’s World Environment Day and people around the world gather to celebrate, protect and restore our planet. What can you do to take care of it and join in the activities on a global scale? Butterfly Education and Awareness Day Support Butterfly Education and Awareness day on Sunday 5 June by planting butterfly friendly plants in your garden. For advice on garden design and plant choices book in for a FREE garden visit from one of our passionate volunteer garden guides. I Sea I Care Ambassadors With great excitement Casey's I See I Care Ambassadors gathered for the first time in 2 years since lockdowns and online learning began. The team from the Dolphin Research Institute work with student Ambassadors from Casey schools teaching them about the marine environment in our local bays. Recycling contamination Incorrect items in the recycling bin are a major problem. They deteriorate the quality of good recyclable material. As wrong items are sorted out, they often drag out high quality recyclable material as well. Common incorrect items in the recycling bin include plastic bags, food waste, clothing and soft plastics. It is important to get the basics right! Casey Cornucopia As part of the Winter Arts Festival, Casey Cornucopia will be a 24-day mini-festival. Everything from giant sculptures, guided tours, parties and so much more! The waste education team will be out on Sunday 16 July Check it before you chuck it More packages are adopting the Australian Recycling Labels, aimed at reducing confusion around materials and their correct disposal.
