Join us for the CAFÉ Data Drive on Monday, March 25th, from 2-5pm EST.

During this virtual drop-in event, members of our Data Management team will be available to provide guidance for uploading your data to the CAFÉ Dataverse collection.

• Limited to 50 participants
• Each participant should have 1-3 prepared datasets they want to share.

By sharing your data in the collection you will:

• receive a citable DOI for each dataset for citations by individuals reusing your data in publications
• comply with FAIR principles and the CAFE NIH DMSP template and
• encourage reuse of data across the climate health community of practice members (1200+ members and growing).

10 participants will be randomly selected to have their dataset featured in our newsletter, across our social media platforms, and on our website.

Reminder: Submit Your Application for Pilot Funding!

CAFÉ is nearing the end of our first application window for pilot projects. The objective of the CAFÉ pilot program is to provide small seed funding for activities (e.g., data collection, community engagement, training and workshops) that will allow investigators to strengthen applications for future independent funding. This will help expand the Community of Practice in climate and health research and build capacity among a new and diverse group of investigators.

Proposals are due March 15, so don’t forget to submit before the end of day today! Team members will be in touch early next week to confirm submission of application materials for completed applications.

The NIH-funded Natural Hazards and Disaster Reconnaissance (RAPID) Facility invites you to share your insights through a 10-15 minute informational survey focused on the needs of your research community following climate-related disasters.

HEI Solicitation for Research 

HEI will release a solicitation for research that assesses cumulative effects of chemical and nonchemical stressors on health in historically marginalized communities on March 18. The assessments will aim to inform solutions, such as policies, interventions, or outreach methods, that address stressors of importance to the involved community.

“Translating Climate and Health Research Insights into Action”: An NIA/NIH Speaker Series

From March to August 2024, NIA will host a monthly 1 hr webinar series on Translational Science in Climate and Health. In these monthly meetings, expert members from the US and abroad will explore key issues in the translational of scientific insights around climate and health into actionable interventions that reduce harms from climate change.

NIA Virtual Workshop: Impacts of Extreme Weather Conditions and Disasters on Older Adult Health

 March 26-27, 2024 | Virtual

The first day will focus on the behavioral and social mechanisms linked to climate exposures that impact older adults, as well as a discussion of both available behavioral/social measures and data needs. The second day will concentrate on understanding adaptations and interventions at the individual, community, and health systems levels. Through presentations and discussions, participants will formulate a comprehensive research agenda by identifying research gaps and opportunities, future research directions, and research needs.

Fellowship Opportunity - DR2

The University of Washington’s Center for Disaster Resilient Communities is offering a hands-on training program in environmental and public health disaster research methods and skills for up to 25 advanced graduate students and early career hazards and disaster researchers from across the United States.

This fellowship includes a weeklong in-person intensive at the University of Washington Seattle Campus from August 5-9, 2024 followed by a yearlong applied research experience.

RISE Training Programs Accepting Applications

Research Innovations using Sensor Technology in Environmental Justice Communities (RISE Communities) is a NIEHS-supported training program with the objective to foster successful community-academic partnerships and equip research teams with skills and knowledge to successfully utilize low-cost air sensors in environmental justice (EJ) communities.  The program is now accepting applications for their next in-person program in Cincinnati, Ohio August 7-9, 2024, for teams composed of one academic researcher and one community member ideally active in a community organization that addresses environmental justice.

The Action Collaborative on Disaster Research: Symposium on Disaster Data Science

April 2, 2024 | 11-4pm ET

The Action Collaborative on Disaster Research will convene federal and non-federal stakeholders and subject matter experts to scope perspectives and share information needs related to the state of U.S. disaster data science. Specifically, attendees will: Discuss the state of prevailing disaster science questions which seek to be answered using existent disaster data sources; share federally and non-federally supported disaster data (and other ancillary data) sources which can be leveraged for collaboration and scientific inquiry; examine opportunities to increase access and utilization of disaster data sources and streamline interoperability and integration of data for science and improved understanding (by use cases).
