SH30 Kōpaki rail overbridge replacement

27 April 2023

Kōpaki rail overbridge nearing completion

The new Kōpaki rail overbridge on State Highway 30 is very close to completion. Much of the work that has been done since the end of March has been around removing of equipment and tidying the site in preparation for opening to traffic, which is expected in late May.
Removal of formwork and scaffolding from around the bridge is underway along with completing some final reinforcing and earthworks. Soon the final stage of works will begin to prepare the bridge for traffic. This involves a final seal coat and installation of the side barriers and signs.
After the new bridge is open in May work will still be happening on site as the old timber bridge needs to be demolished. Drivers are reminded to consider the safety of workers and obey all temporary speeds when passing through the site.

Kōpaki Overbridge is nearing completion

Thanks from us

As the project nears its end after 2 years of construction work on site, Waka Kotahi would like to thank contractor Downer, consultant BBO, Inframax and all the other sub-contractors who have worked on site for their contribution to replacing this critical piece of infrastructure.
Waka Kotahi would also like to thank the residents who live near the bridge and the drivers who use State Highway 30 for their patience. We understand how disruptive it can be living and working around a big construction project.
