Nine months after floods devastated the community around the Central West New South Wales town of Forbes in November 2022, including inundating their 90-year-old church building, members of the local Lutheran congregation are finally back ‘home’. On 27 August, St John’s Lutheran Church was reopened, rededicated and blessed during a worship service led by Pastor James Leach, who described the occasion as a homecoming. Read more

Our LCANZ bishops are calling the people of the church to set aside Sunday 8 October for a churchwide day of prayer focusing on the unity of the church. This is a significant day as it is just a year from the 2024 Convention of General Synod. Promotion resources are available on our Call to Prayer webpage.

Pastor Andrew Brook was installed as the new Bishop of the South Australia – Northern Territory District of the LCANZ on Sunday (3 September) in a service at Concordia College in suburban Adelaide. Installed by LCANZ Bishop Paul Smith, Bishop Andrew was elected unopposed at the district’s Convention of Synod in May. Read more

Over the next three Sundays (10, 17 and 24 September), we hope the Season of Prayer will create ongoing, deepening prayer in our churches. Our praying precedes our going. Prayer is about being present in the presence of God, deepening our intimacy with the Father, listening to the Spirit, and walking with Jesus. As Paul writes in Colossians 4: ‘Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.’ Together as the LCANZ, let’s seek God’s presence in prayer. Lord, renew your church!

If you are troubled by the lack of young people in our congregations today, this podcast will offer some hope and joy. Two of the LCANZ's young leaders, Elsa Matthias and Joel Grieger, share uplifting stories about their faith, leadership journeys, and reflections on how we can support young leaders in our church. Listen to the podcast.

Everyone can see that there are not as many young people in our congregations as there used to be. Help LCANZ Local Mission raise $50,000 so Grow Leadership can continue to develop future leaders. Look for the appeal letters at your congregation or donate now. Find out more on the Local Mission appeal webpage, which includes a promotional video.

We are aware of scam text messages being directed to church workers and congregation office-bearers. The sender pretends to be the pastor or an office-bearer asking for assistance. The phone numbers of pastors and congregation leaders appear to be harvested from congregation websites. If you receive a suspicious message from your pastor or anyone else, do not respond. Call the sender directly to ascertain the legitimacy of the message. You should contact your district office if you need further advice.
