Church Street, Wellington, Community Space Launch Event Kāinga Ora Wellington Region Community UpdateKia ora We hope you're staying warm during these cooler months. Rain or shine, we’ve been busy engaging with the community and supporting our customers across Greater Wellington. Check out some of the latest updates from the team. Wellington New community space at Church Street To help connect our customers at Church Street, we worked alongside partners to launch the new, in-house community space. This was enabled by our amazing community partners that delivered free food, haircuts, clothes, portraits, immunisations and health testing, and jobs and skills support. Big thanks to everyone involved in making it such a huge success including Downtown Community Ministry, Tu Ora, YMCA, EKTA, Tāma, Sheree Freeman, AIIA OLA, Porirua Photography Club, Dave Roberts Portraits, and NZ Police. New homes at Coromandel Street, Newtown, Wellington We had a great turnout of neighbours, customers and community leaders and elected officials supporting the blessing of nine new homes at Coromandel Street. The site was previously a local school and kindergarten and has been redeveloped to help whānau into warm and dry homes. The development, which is near shops, schools, transport and key services, consists of two five-bedroom, two four-bedroom and five two-bedroom homes. We've already started welcoming families into their new homes and look forward to helping them settle into the Newtown community. Empowering customers to learn to cook simple meals A neighbour to Te Maara, Lifepoint Church launched a pilot four weeks ago to cook simple meals with residents using similar items that are received by residents in their Kaibosh packs. On average between 15 and 20 residents meet each week in preparing, cooking and sharing the meal over conversation. Lower Hutt New homes in Lower Hutt We have completed 18 developments totalling 122 new homes for Lower Hutt whānau across Taita, Naenae, Boulcott, Waterloo, Waiwhetu and Petone since May. A further 5 developments are in construction. Epuni Blocks F, G & H – Our team had a beautiful morning alongside Kaumatua Taku Parai blessing 36 new homes at Epuni Development in Fairfield, Lower Hutt. We have already begun matching customers to the homes for move in and can’t wait to welcome them alongside the community. We’ve been working closely with key community organisations to shape plans for community development activities in Epuni including Tākiri Mai Te Ata, Epuni Fairfield Community Group, Oasis Church and Hutt City Council. Purchased development on Renyolds Street It was lovely celebrating 13 new homes delivered in Reynolds Street in Taita this month. This was a purchased development. We had a great turnout with 37 people attending including Hutt City Council, Sustainability Trust, Downtown Community Ministry, Oasis, Pomare School, neighbours and iwi. We are working closely with these groups to support welcoming our customers and connecting them with local services. Upper Hutt New homes in Upper Hutt In August we had 3 completion blessings for developments delivering 15 new homes at Holdsworth, Bristol Street and Whakatiki Street in Upper Hutt. If you’re in the neighbourhood, we'd love for you to join us to check out the completed homes at the community open home on 2 September 2024 from 2-3:30pm at 26-28 Bristol Street. All are welcome! Wairarapa Connecting neighbours through play In partnership with Nuku Ora, we co-hosted a month of play at our recently completed Iorns Street homes in June. Each play session with our customers and their whānau enabled us to learn more about their ideas for the shared green space in the centre of the development. We are now working with the local Men’s Shed and Masterton District Council to install a playbox and planter boxes to support our customers aspirations as well as supporting the ongoing programme of activities with Nuku Ora. Porirua Te Rā Nui - Eastern Porirua Development Project It was great connecting with the community and key stakeholders at the Porirua Pacific Night Market to share the latest update on our large-scale project Te Rā Nui – Eastern Porirua Development. There is a big focus on upgrading infrastructure and laying the necessary groundwork for more housing in eastern Porirua. To learn more what the project is looking to complete and start work on, check out our project website. Kāpiti Working in partnership to deliver housingThis month, locals in Ōtaki got to check out and celebrate the completion of six, off-site manufactured new homes at Kirk Street. This brings the total of new homes completed in Ōtaki to 21 since late 2023. The team are working closely with Ministry of Social Development, Ngā Hapū o Ōtaki and Kāpiti Coast District Council on placement to ensure these homes support those who need it most in this community. In addition, our local team is working with Ngā Hapū o Ōtaki and support agencies to ensure our customer live well and are connected in the Ōtaki community.
