Heading into the Final Day of C420 North Americans

Hello PYSF Parents, Sailors and Community Members--

It's a battle out there for everyone! Redwood City provided 11-21 knots of breeze and a farily strong ebb to sailors on day three of the C420 North American Championship. Racers had to wait under postponement for the breeze to settle in before racing began.  Three races for Gold Fleet and two for Silver Fleet were completed in 11-21 knots. Harrision Gandy/Reid Packard (73 Sailing) and Tate Christopher/Taylor Bartell (BCYC/BYC/ABYC/SoCal) showed the fleet how it was done finishing minutes before the rest of the pack in race 7 of Gold Fleet. The breeze was heaviest for our second race when it pumped in and reached 21 knots.  Thomas O'Grady/Emmet Ennico (73 Sailing/Noroton YC) took the win.  In our final Gold Fleet race of the day the breeze stayed around 18-20 knots with the ebb making the sea state quite disturbed. Starting in an ebb is a challenge, and Gold Fleet handled it well, getting off the last start at 5:10pm.

After 9 races the scores are close at the top. Sitting in third, with a very consistent score line are Jacob Posner/Cam Spriggs (73 Sailing/Seattle YC).  Cooper Keeves/Matthew Commons (California YC/SoCal) are in 2nd and current race leaders are Chase Decker/Ryan Hoffman (73 Sailing/LIYC/BCYC).  Almost everyone in the top 10 has a double digit as a throwout, so you never know what today will do to the standings!  Three races are planned and the forecast looks good.  At the end of today we will be crowning our 2024 C420 North American Champions!  Awards will be after racing today at the regatta tent adjacent to Hurrica.  We invite all of our community members to attend and congratulate these sailors on an impressive week of sailing!

106 teams from around the country are competing in the C420 North American Championship, just outside Redwood Creek in South San Francisco Bay.  The fleet is divided into two groups of 53, completing two days of qualifying races followed by two days of championship racing. The fleets are racing on a trapezoid course. Sponsors: Hannig Sail It Forward Foundation, InvestorFlow, Westpoint Harbor, Hurrica Restaurant, San Francisco Peninsula, Somand, NAOS Yachts. If you would like to get in on the action we would LOVE it.  Do you have a boat and can take out spectators?  Do you have a few free hours to help move dollies off the ramp, or serve snacks to the kids after racing, or help with checkin?  Email Siobhan at office@pysf.us or use the link at top of sheet to let us know.  HERE is the spreadsheet listing all of our rockstar volunteers.

See you out on the water--Molly
