SH1 Papakura to DruryConstruction update |
8 November 2024 |
Construction update | He pānuiKia ora Last month, wet weather conditions affected our progress on the paving programme on the motorway, which is the last task to complete on Stage 1A of the project. Our crew started laying the final layer of asphalt pavement on the southbound side of the motorway last month before moving over onto the northbound side this month. This phase of the project involves asphalt paving between the BP motorway service centre and Papakura Interchange. We aim to finish the final asphalt surfacing by the end of this month, weather permitting. As signalled in our last update, for a number of weeks we have also been progressively removing vegetation and trees along the motorway corridor that (if left in place) would have been in the way of new motorway lanes, retaining walls and stormwater treatment areas to be built by the project. Down at Drury, we are establishing new worksites off to the east and west of the interchange - read on for more details. |

Earthworks underway for realigning Flanagan Road, to the east of Drury Interchange. Setting up new work sites | Ngā whakaritengaEarthworks have started on site to enable the realignment of Flanagan Road, which is needed as the motorway will be moving across to where the end of Flanagan Road lies. Our team is currently digging out and building up a retaining wall site near the Hingaia Stream as the first stage of realigning the road. Prior to digging, we installed a range of measures to control erosion and sediment loss during the construction process. In the coming weeks, we will be setting up a new construction site on Bremner Road for building a new bridge over Ngaakooroa Stream. The first stage of works will involve building a temporary bridge over Ngaakooroa Stream beside the existing bridge before it is demolished and rebuilt. Demolition of two houses on Bremner Road (between the motorway overbridge and the stream) has started this week where a new site compound will be established. |

A temporary bridge will be built to carry vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists on Bremner Road over Ngaakooroa Stream prior to replacing the existing stream bridge with a new, higher bridge. |

Final layer of asphalt being laid on the southbound side of the motorway. Night works | Mahi i te pōMost of our work over the past month has been done at night with motorway closures in place. Despite wet weather resulting in some shifts being postponed, our team successfully completed final paving on the southbound side of the motorway. We have now transitioned across to the northbound side, between the BP motorway service centre and Papakura Interchange where there are three lanes in each direction. At the Drury Interchange, our crew has also been doing utility service investigations at night. This work involves identifying the exact location of underground services and to confirm whether relocating them will be required as part of our coming construction works to relocate and rebuild Drury Interchange. By the end of this month, we expect to complete the removal of trees and vegetation along both sides of the motorway, which has also needed to be done at night with the motorway closed. These works are clearing the way for beginning the next phase of motorway construction, Stage 1B. |
