Story

Night detours for southbound traffic will be in place on SH1-Cambridge Road from Monday 1 April. Detour times and dates:

• 9pm-5am, Mon 1 April and Tue 2 April
• 9pm-5am, Sun 14 April to Wed 17 April
• 9pm-5am, Sun 28 April to Thu 2 May.

Northbound traffic will not be affected.

Detours will apply to through-traffic from the Hillcrest roundabout (SH1/26 intersection) to the Tamahere Interchange. However, residents from Cambridge Road through to Annebrooke Road will still be able to access their properties.

These night works will allow construction crews to complete testing and tie-ins for two new lanes to carry SH1 traffic.

2. Huge crane at work in the gully

Bridge beams are being placed on the Mangaharakeke Gully Bridge this week by one of the country’s biggest crawler cranes. The 600-tonne crane is delivered in pieces on 30 trucks. Assembly begins on site four days before the first lift. The big crane’s extra reach is required to lift beams weighing up to 68 tonnes and to place them up to 65m away.

3. Our biggest culvert completed

Our 5m-wide culvert in the East West Gully at Tamahere is now complete. This metal cylinder is 75m long and has been constructed from hundreds of curved plates, bolted together. Sand will now be compacted around it and fill placed on top to create the foundation for the East West Link Road between Cherry Lane and Birchwood Lane.

Work will now begin to re-establish the stream bed inside the culvert.

6. New layout at Greenhill

Our roading teams are building the new layout for Greenhill road to connect with the Greenhill Interchange and Pardoa Boulevard. Pardoa Boulevard connects with the Gordonton Road/Wairere Drive roundabout. Once Greenhill Road traffic is running on the new road layout, fill will be placed on top of a bypassed section of Greenhill Road to complete the approaches to the interchange.
