Manufacturing Energy Efficiency GrantThe Queensland Government's Manufacturing Energy Efficiency Grant program helps manufacturers to increase competitiveness in a low-carbon future by implementing energy efficiency measures. Applications opened 23 October 2023 and will close on 30 June 2024 or when all funding for the round is allocated. Details at www.rdmw.qld.gov.au. Local manufacturer, JAG Welding has been awarded almost $800,000 through the Queensland Government’s Made in Queensland grant program. The funding will enable purchase and installation of a robotic welding arm and software that will create new industry leading technology capabilities. It will be a gamechanger for the company, reducing customer wait time by 33 per cent, reducing production costs and increasing profitability and employee safety . The project is estimated to add 15 new full-time jobs and up to 33 jobs over the next five years. JAG Welding has been operating for more than 20 years; starting in a small shed in Redland Bay, growing the business to Capalaba industrial precinct, and from October 2023 relocating in a larger new purpose-built facility at Redlands Business Park, Redland Bay. Business owners David and Gavin Shepherd continue to innovate and are working to create a more attractive working environment where welding is more appealing to women who may be looking for jobs in manufacturing. Representatives from Council’s Economic Development team were invited to tour the Redland Bay business with the Honourable Glenn Butcher, Minister for Regional Development and Manufacturing, when he announced the funding.
