More than 8,000 students will receive their degrees, diplomas and certificates during Western's 2023 convocation ceremonies. Western News celebrates the Class of 2023 by sharing stories of some of our graduates' journeys.

Western-built mini-satellite launches into outer space

A Western-built miniature satellite, called a CubeSat, launched into outer space on June 6, providing students an opportunity to learn first-hand about space mission development.

Thinking Globally, Acting Locally supports student-driven projects. The Western program has boosted sustainability across the city and tackled a host of societal problems with distinctly local consequences.  

Charting the route to chronic disease management

Western researcher and former Olympic athlete Dr. Jane Thorton has developed My Active Ingredient – an online platform where people managing chronic health conditions can share their favourite ‘movement hacks’ and inspire each other with stories of success.

Parking during spring convocation
From June 12 to 23, Huron Flats, Medway and South Valley lots are designated for parking during convocation for graduates and their guests. During this time, those who normally park in these lots are encouraged to park in other areas, where your permit allows.

New bike lockers
Fifty new bike lockers are being installed on campus. The single-stall units, along with spaces in existing sheltered bike storage facilities, are available through Parking Services.

Continuing Studies fall course registration now open
Explore courses, micro-credentials, and certificates starting this fall to meet your learning goals. All courses are advance funded for eligible employees through Western’s educational assistance plan.

Celebrating the life of Bert Taylor
The Western community, family and friends will remember and celebrate the life of Bert Taylor, former Dean of the Faculty of Physical Education and the Faculty of Kinesiology. The celebration of life presentation will begin at 1 p.m.at The Great Hall. Registration deadline is June 14.

Inclusive spaces for diverse sexualities: Lunch and Learn
Participants will learn how to feel more comfortable and confident with their own sexuality and learn how to model more sex positive conversations with colleagues and students. Facilitated by Amelia Seed, gender-based violence prevention education coordinator and Shasta MacDermid, mental health counsellor, this workshop is being held at Thames Hall, room 3118.
