Senior 2 Ball Championship WinnersThe inaugural Senior 2 Ball Championship was held on Friday and was an exciting day for all participants. The festivities began with a thoughtful opening prayer delivered by member Brian Royal. Following the prayer, past Club Champion Russell Gilliam and his family were honored on the first tee. Russell had the privilege of hitting the ceremonial opening tee shot, delivering a beautiful tight draw into the left-center of the fairway. Congratulations to Russell for being chosen as the honorary starter by his peers here at BMCC! The competition was divided into two nine-team flights. Teams played a format where both balls counted on the front nine, while the best ball was counted on the back nine. The event also featured a skins game and a “Rabbit” contest on both sides. Robby Watson and his partner, the self-proclaimed “Man of Steel” Jihm Landrum, claimed victory in the first flight and were crowned overall tournament champions. Cleve Lamb and Chad Blackmon took second place, with Stewart Young and Darren “Crack” Davenport finishing third. In the second flight, Carl Rau and the impeccably dressed Patrick Mulvehill emerged victorious. Mike Martin and Stan Tam secured second place, while the doctor duo of John Bieltz and Frank Powell claimed third. A total of five skins were won during the event. Cleve Lamb earned a skin with an eagle on the 3rd hole, Tony Kearns eagled the 12th, and Dodge Johnson achieved an eagle on the 16th. Mike Martin captured two skins, scoring an eagle on the 11th hole and an impressive double eagle on the 15th. Congratulations to all the skins winners! No one managed to claim the rabbits, as last-minute birdies knocked them loose, leaving them safe and sound despite the efforts of several hopeful players. Past President Van Langham treated everyone to a delicious post-tournament meal featuring smoked brisket and Swiss cheese sliders, along with a side of mixed baked beans. No one left hungry—thank you, Van! This inaugural event was a celebration of our Senior players and their exceptional skills as they competed against peers of their own age. A special thank you goes out to the dedicated committee members who made this possible, including Head Professional Jordan Sosby, Director of Golf O’Neil Crouch, and Board Member Josh Morey. Thank you to all who participated. We look forward to making this event even bigger each year as we honor our senior members at Belle Meade!
