Night works

Waka Kotahi is planning night works on SH20B over the next few weeks.  Our normal working hours for the project are between 7am and 5pm from Monday to Saturday.  However, we need to do some work at night as the traffic volumes during the day are too high for us to work safely.

These works will take place between 9pm at night and 4am in the morning and at times SH20B will be blocked to through-traffic.  Diversions will be in place with Traffic Control assistance on site and detour routes.

We will keep the road open as much as possible and will advise you in advance of all programmed road closures.  Access for residents will be maintained.

These works will involve truck and heavy machinery movements and noise.  We will minimise disruption as much as possible and apologise in advance for any inconvenience.

Night works will include
• Utility services trenching across SH20B
• Relocation of the Spark Tower by Campana Road
• Installation of a 24 tonne hollowcore bridge beam at Waokauri Bridge
• Barrier relocation works to facilitate cycle and pedestrian improvements.

 Looking ahead

• Power pole relocations affecting properties from 402 to 485 Puhinui Road
• Drainage works at 431 Puhinui Rd
• Continuing benches and wicks outside Manukau Memorial Gardens
• Construction of retaining wall east of the old gates at Manukau Memorial Gardens

Story

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency and Auckland International Airport Limited are upgrading State Highway 20B for better and more reliable travel options with a new shared path and additional priority lanes between Pukaki Creek Bridge and State Highway 20.

This project will integrate with improved transport facilities within the airport precinct along SH20B and at the upgraded Puhinui Station Interchange.

The project is the first step of the Southwest Gateway programme to provide better public transport, walking and cycling facilities with safer and more efficient freight movements to, from and around Southwest Auckland.

Fulton Hogan undertakes this work on behalf of Waka Kotahi.

Key early improvements on State Highway 20B to be delivered by 2021 include:

  • A safe place for people to walk and ride bikes
  • Safety improvements including central median barrier protection, improved lighting and a reduced speed
  • Improved pavement, drainage and stormwater treatment
  • Two improved intersections at Campana Road and Manukau Memorial Gardens.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency works to create transport solutions for all New Zealanders – from helping new drivers earn their licences, to leading safety campaigns to investing in public transport, state highways and local roads.
