Mount Cecil Road to Harris Road

Our work on SH58 from Mount Cecil Road to Harris Road will continue into 2023.  Flexible wire median barriers, side barriers and line marking east of Harris Road will be complete this month.

People who need to turn right into Harris Road will have a dedicated turning bay in the new road layout. There will also be adequate space within the intersection to make a U-turn if required. However, if users do not feel comfortable doing this, they should continue to the roundabout at the SH2 intersection.

Harris Road to East of Moonshine Road

We’re pleased to say that we’ve now received all approvals for safety improvements to this section of the road.

Power lines shifted onto new power poles in January will help us widen the road. Earthworks and new gabion retaining walls made of stones in wire baskets will also help road widening in two places on this section of highway.

Unfortunately, two pine trees had to be removed as they presented potential hazards to the highway. Most of this wood has been given to our iwi partners at Takapuwahia for firewood distributed by the social services team at Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira.

Starting soon, we'll be working at night to lay new asphalt surfacing in this area.

Moonshine Road to Transmission Gully interchange

We’ve applied to Greater Wellington Regional Council and Porirua City Council for approvals to do safety improvement works in this section of SH58.  This includes two new roundabouts at Moonshine and Flightys/Murphys Roads.

From March, the Transmission Gully project team will be working on the SH58 interchange. There are conversations underway to ensure that major disruptive works are coordinated between Transmission Gully and SH58 improvements team.
