I was honoured to have been asked to sit on the judging panel for the Women in Utilities Awards 2025 earlier this year. The calibre of entrants was outstanding - each demonstrating the remarkable achievements of women in the utilities sector and the organisations and individuals that champion them. ![]() Ethnicity and disability pay gap reporting - consultation Large employers already report on their gender pay gaps, In line with its commitments in Next Steps to Make Work Pay, the Government is working towards extending mandatory reporting obligations for large employers to cover ethnicity and disability. This consultation is seeking views on how to introduce mandatory ethnicity and disability pay reporting for large employers. Responses to the consultation will help to shape proposals which will be included in the upcoming Equality (Race and Disability) Bill. ![]() National Gas - how can we close the gender pay gap and build a more diverse energy workforce? National Gas Chief People Officer, Sarah Stanton, joined Michelle Gyimah on the “Beyond the Pay Gap” podcast sharing how National Gas is tackling gender inequality and creating a culture of belonging.
Find out more here. ![]() UK Research and Innovation publishes gender pay gap report – UKRI The sixth annual gender pay gap report highlights the percentage difference between the average hourly earnings for males and females across the organisation. The gender pay gap is a measure across all jobs in UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), not of the difference in pay between males and females for doing the same job. UKRI’s mean gender pay gap (GPG) has narrowed by 0.6 percentage points since 2022. The figures show that in 2024, UKRI’s mean gender pay gap was 9.0 per cent, 1.3 percentage points higher than the UK national GPG, which stood at 7.7 per cent in 2023. In other words, for every £1 that males earned, on average females earned 91p. However, the most recent data has shown a widening by 0.7 percentage points in the last year, and the median GPG has increased by 2.5 percentage points. Read the UKRI gender pay gap report 2024. ![]() Diversity Survey Report 2024 The Diversity Survey is the UK’s largest annual benchmarking initiative for collecting and aggregating protected characteristic data of employees within the built environment sector. This report analyses data from the 2024 Diversity Survey, presents findings, highlights key trends, and suggests areas for targeted improvement. The data is visualised through graphs, tables, and graphics, with comparisons across Tiers and sectors, as well as identification of annual trends. Key topics include gender, age, ethnicity, disability, inclusive workplaces, sexual orientation, board diversity, religion and belief, the impact of unknown data, attraction and recruitment, voluntary turnover, and the core group of 57 reporting organisations.
