Construction restarts on SH30 Eastern Corridor Stage One

Kia ora koutou,

We hope you are safe and well within your bubbles.

This newsletter is to let you know that construction of the Eastern Corridor Stage One project on State Highway 30/Te Ngae Road restarted yesterday.

In line with the Government’s response to COVID-19, the Stage One site has been closed during Alert Level 4. The move to Alert Level 3 has allowed the project to re-commence, while adhering to strict health and safety protocols for workers and road users.

Our contractor Downer will be following the specific guidelines developed by the Construction Health and Safety New Zealand (CHASNZ) group for the safe return to the job for construction workers.

These standards and guidelines include measures for pre-planning work, documenting the health and safety of staff, ensuring safe physical distancing is maintained, cleaning of all plant, tools and vehicles, and being able to quickly and accurately trace people should they come in contact with someone who contracts COVID19.

Contractors will go through a COVID-19 induction and learn the new practices and protocols for the site to keep them, the surrounding community and road users safe.

What work is happening?
Contractors’ main work areas over the next few weeks will be as follows:

Puarenga Park
Continuing to work on the new access road to the Whakarewarewa Rugby Club. This work is now expected to be complete in early June.
Te Ngae Road (Sala to Tarawera)
Work in the road shoulder installing the new watermain and relocating of services, such as power.
Te Ngae Road (Tarawera to Allen Mills)
Work in the road shoulder starting from outside GJ Gardner, heading east, to install the new stormwater main.

Keeping our contractors and the community safe
Remember, our contractors are stepping outside of their bubbles to do vital work to keep New Zealand moving. Please maintain physical distance if you're near a work site.
