Following on from our announcement advising that consultation on the Northern Pathway Westhaven to Akoranga section has been extended by an additional week to Sunday 19 April (click here to read the full media release), we want to keep you updated on further project developments.
Proposed hours of operation of the pathway
Our proposal now includes that the Northern Pathway will be available for use 24 hours a day, seven days a week as it will be a key part of the Auckland walking and cycling network. We have heard through previous consultation that as the pathway is a transport corridor, people expect to be able to use it on a 24/7 basis. We acknowledge that there are issues to be worked through around safety and security that have been raised previously by future users and members of the community, but given the high level of enquiry about the operational hours, we wanted to address this publicly as part of the extended consultation window.
Facilities along the pathway
We are now also considering the installation of toilet facilities along the pathway. The location(s) of these are yet to be confirmed, and we welcome your feedback about locations and other considerations we need to be aware of when looking at these types of facilities as part of this consultation.
Finally, we’ve also taken the opportunity provided by an extra week of consultation to update the images and information on our website in response to your feedback. You’ll now find that the route map includes visuals of the connections at Sulphur Beach Reserve, Onewa Road, and Esmonde Road intersection, and our Frequently Asked Questions have been expanded to cover off more of the questions you have been asking.
