Natasha Fyles Media Release Statement from the Chief Minister16 November 2023 Today I have taken steps to divest a minor shareholding in Woodside Energy Group. The 169 shares in Woodside originate from a gift from my grandmother of some shares in BHP in 1985, when I was seven years old. The Woodside shares were issued last year as a result of a merger between the two companies, and were properly declared. I have always declared share holdings while a Member of Parliament, in accordance with the legislation. I have never had any dealings with Woodside as Chief Minister. The Government has not had to make any decisions relating to Woodside or its interests. While there has never been a conflict, I will not let this be a distraction from the real issues facing the Territory, or let it be used by the Territory’s opponents to try and stop us from building the Territory’s future. I am divesting these shares to end this distraction. I am staying focussed on what really matters to Territorians – growing the economy and creating jobs, tackling cost of living pressures on families, and making the Territory a safer place for all. Those are my priorities as Chief Minister, and it’s what I’ll keep working every day to deliver. Northern Territory Government |
