Business Basics Grants

Expressions of interest close 11 June 2024

The Queensland Government's Business Basics Grants Program is open for expressions of interest until 11 June 2024, 5pm.  Small businesses with less than 20 employees are encouraged to review the funding guidelines.

This is a competitive program offering grants of $5,000 per grant.

Eligible activities include:

  • Business continuity and succession planning
  • Security planning and solutions
  • Sustainability related activities

Crime Prevention Seminar 

The Queensland Police Service Crime Prevention Unit is facilitating a free Community Crime Prevention Seminar designed to provide you with knowledge to conduct your own security assessment and to improve personal safety and wellbeing. This seminar will provide the opportunity to assess your own home or business, identify the priority vulnerabilities and allow you to apply the right treatment to address it.

Local Retail Activation Toolkit Workshop 

Redland City Council in partnership with Urbis is hosting two free workshops for retailers to learn how to use the Redlands Coast Local Retail and Activation Toolkit. Learn from experts about the toolkit features and gain valuable insights for small retail businesses.

Decarbonisation supports

The Department of State Development and Infrastructure's Local economic opportunities network webpage is available for information about government programs and services related to decarbonisation and the associated economic opportunities.

The following programs and supports have recently been added:

  1. Snapshot Climate tool provides greenhouse gas emissions profiles for Australian local government areas, regions, federal electorates, states and territories which are free to download.
  2. Becoming an environmentally friendly business guide outlines the benefits and process for ensuring your business is environmentally friendly, including opportunities to reduce waste and tips for saving energy and lowering energy costs.
  3. Energy savings ideas for agricultural businesses guide provides energy savings advice and tips to reduce energy use and save costs.
  4. Design in Manufacturing Program workshop aims to raise business awareness of the importance of circular-design in manufacturing, building capability, reducing waste and lowering costs.
  5. Queensland-Bavaria Collaborative Research Program provides support for research collaboration in focus areas including clean energy and storage, and emission reduction technologies.

In a significant milestone for Redlands Coast, local business REA Power proudly unveiled its Australian-engineered and assembled AC Solar Module earlier this year. This innovative product represents a forward-thinking approach to renewable energy and underscores REA Power’s commitment to sustainability.

The Queensland Government’s April 2024 passage of the Clean Economy Jobs Act 2024 and the Energy (Renewable Transformation and Jobs) Act 2024 has created an ideal environment for businesses like REA Power to thrive. To their credit REA Power has positioned itself as a key player in the global energy transformation.

 
 

Redlands Coast Small Business Hub

Appointments available

Redland City Council and the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training are providing businesses with free support and advice on:  

  • Recruitment and retention of staff
  • Business planning and guidance
  • Mentoring and support
  • Government grants and funding
  • Apprenticeship and traineeship support
  • Skilling Queenslanders for Work
  • Referrals to other agencies or organisations.

In person appointments are held at the Cleveland Library on the third Thursday of the month. Bookings are available for the upcoming hubs Thursday 20 June 2024, 10am to 2pm and Thursday 18 July 2024, 10am to 2pm.
