Inequities persist: Extracurriculars, clubs, activities, and fundraising in Ontario’s publicly funded schools

People for Education

The report shows that while most extracurricular activities and learning opportunities have resumed since being paused due to the pandemic, students’ access varies substantially depending on geography as well as the median family income of the school neighbourhood. An analysis of these results also revealed that while fundraising supports many of these activities, it has not returned to pre-pandemic levels and varies widely depending on socioeconomic characteristics like household income.

IOWA STEM Evaluation Report

Erin O. Heiden, Justin Szabo, Andrew Guhin, MS Matthew Whittaker, Mary E. Losch, & Catherine Welch

This report evaluates the STEM Scale-Up Program by IOWA’s STEM Network. The network provides high-quality STEM education professional development and curriculum to educators in schools, after-school programs, and other settings for youth in grades prekindergarten through 12. The STEM Scale-Up Program was monitored using two sources of information that were expected from all schools/organizations implementing a STEM Scale-Up Program: 1) an
educator survey, and 2) a student participant list.

Classroom-Based STEM Assessment: Contemporary Issues and Perspectives

Christopher J. Harris, Eric Wiebe, Shuchi Grover, & James W. Pellegrino

This report is focused on what research and practice indicate about how assessment impacts the teaching and learning of STEM subject matter in K–12 classrooms. The report takes stock of what we currently know and what we need to know to make classroom assessment in STEM maximally beneficial for the instructional practices of teachers and students' learning outcomes. The volume draws inspiration from the cumulative body of research on STEM education that has accrued over the last two decades, with particular emphasis on work funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) through its Discovery Research PreK-12 (DRK-12) funding program. As articulated in NSF’s DRK-12 solicitation.

We believe no child should be constrained by stereotypes or the expectations of others. We know that if young people hear firsthand about the world of work, they work harder, get better grades and are more likely to break down barriers.

They should have the chance to start as early as possible, and that is why we launched the national I am #InspiringTheFuture campaign.
