Opening hours change for sneak peek at the CNC

The bedding in of the chip is going very well, thank you to everyone who is helping us out.

Due to some access issues, we need a little more time on the road during the day for testing and inspections, so the opening hours are being slightly reduced. Apologies for this inconvenience.

  • Tomorrow and Friday open 12pm – 4pm north & southbound
  • Saturday 5 December until Thursday 10 December open northbound 9.30am to 4pm, southbound 10am to 4pm
  • Friday 11 December closed.

Access to the new motorway is possible from SH1, Belfast Road (southbound only), QEII Drive or Cranford Street.

Due to the loose gravel a temporary 50km/h speed limit will be in place, this may be increased to 70km/h.

High temperatures or other issues may require the CNC Motorway to close on some days during this run-through.

Pedestrians and cyclists are not allowed on the motorway just yet, you will get a sneak peek at our open day, Saturday afternoon 12 December. The new shared path will be open when we fully open the project from Thursday 17 December.

NIGHT WORK
During the evening and at night, crews will work on small adjustments and improvements to finalise the project. Nearby residents will hear the noise from the machinery and the crew working at night.

QEII/Grimseys intersection closed for a day

On Wednesday 9 December, the Grimseys Road QEII Drive intersection will be closed to allow us to chip seal, work on the median and finalise the landscaping in this area. We will be working between 9am and 4pm

During the closure there is no left turn from QEII Drive in or out from Grimseys Road. Diversions via Hills Road, Prestons Road, Main North Road and Daniels Road will be in place.

As this work is weather dependent it could move to another day - Thursday 10 December.

Please note, asphalt will be applied after the chip seal has been in use for about a year.

SH1 update

Work on SH1 continues at night with SH1 traffic near the Waimakariri Bridge reduced to one lane in each direction overnight.

Work is progressing well for our full opening on 17 December.

- Chaneys off-ramp will remain closed till 12 December for traffic signal work
- Tram Road on-ramp will continue to close overnight until mid-December
- Tram Road off-ramp will open Friday.

A 50km/h speed limit will be in place during the work, this will reduce to a 30km/h speed limit when the chip seal surface is new and needs to bed in. Motorcycle riders please be aware of loose gravel.

Please expect delays around the ramp areas during peak hours. Diversions will be in place. This work should not create any significant delay overnight when the work is underway. This work is weather dependent so may take longer than planned.
