Te Oreore Underslip

The winter stabilisation works are being wrapped up. Last year’s slip was caused by water gradually building up in the soil and rock from groundwater seepage. This increased the water pressure at the base of the landslip, reducing the soil’s ability to resist the landslip movement to a point that the landslip was initiated.

The work supports reconstructing the permanent road, planned to get underway in summer 2021.

Hapokopoko Curve Rock

Work on this site is progressing well with the team completing a large section of the scour protection/rip rap placement. The plan is to complete construction on this site by late 2020.

We’ve also been having very constructive conversations with Otoko Pā kaitiaki about the project.

SH4 Maintenance

From Monday 31 August until Tuesday 1 September (weather permitting), essential maintenance work will commence on State Highway 4, Hapokopoko, 500 metres North of Fields Track. Work will be spread over a 2-day period.

This does mean that traffic will be stopped for 10 and 20 minutes at a time as outlined below, we'll then let all traffic through site until cleared, this will be throughout the day from 7am until 5pm on Monday 31 August and Tuesday 1 September (weather permitting).

  • From 7am until 9am traffic will be cleared in 10-minute intervals
  • From 9am until 3pm traffic will be cleared in 20-minute intervals
  • From 3pm until 5pm traffic will be cleared in 10-minute intervals

Due to this work being on a one lane carriageway the Stop/Stop is essential for the safety of those working.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused by these works.

For more information please contact HNO-PN@nzta.govt.nz.

South Raupiu Retreat

Work on this site has been put on hold due to an unstable slope face. During the initial cut work two areas became unstable and slipped. Work was stopped until the design and geotech team can investigate and find a suitable solution.

Despite the delay, we’re still aiming for a completion date of August/September 2020.

Kukuta Underslip

The design work on this site is in its final stages. There are two historical sites outside the work area but close to the north end of this site. As there’s the potential for further sites to be within the work area, an archaeologist has been engaged to undertake a more thorough assessment.

Temporary traffic light safety

With repair work happening on State Highway 4, you’ll continue to see work crews across the various sites.

Many of these have been reduced to a single lane, with temporary traffic lights controlling the flow of traffic. Roads are reduced to a single lane to help work crews perform repairs  in a safe environment.

Please continue to stop for red lights at temporary traffic lights for your own safety, as well as that of other road users, and our work crews.
