Waikanae River bridge clip-on update

The Waikanae bridge clip-on shared path was intended to be installed in February this year. However, the contractors tasked with the project were reallocated to Cyclone Gabrielle recovery efforts. The project team also discovered a clash between the shared path structure and an existing water main and cable tray on the bridge. A minor re-design of a foundation was needed.

Both the construction resourcing and design issues have been resolved. Work on building the shared path is scheduled to re-start in late September/early October, once the construction crew is available again. We estimate the project will take two months to complete.

Access to the existing Waikanae River trails and bridge path for walkers and cyclists will remain unaffected until work recommences. During this time, walkway access will be restricted.

Once work resumes, a series of short single lane closures on the bridge will be required. We'll make sure the community is given advance notice of this.
