Schulich prof named Canada Research Chair

Schulich Medicine & Dentistry professor and tuberculosis researcher Patrick Moynihan was named Western’s newest Canada Research Chair (CRC). Seven CRCs, pursuing research on topics ranging from corrosion science to Roman archaeology, were also renewed in the federal funding announcement on Oct. 22. Western received $13.9 million in additional funding to support research infrastructure, security and other indirect costs of research.

Mixed Tyendinaga Mohawk/settler artist Jodi Lynn Maracle joins Western’s department of visual arts as the 2025-26 Indigenous artist-in-residence. Her work explores Haudenosaunee material culture, language and place through traditional hide tanning.

Western, McMaster boost research collaboration

Western and McMaster are sharing access to 13 advanced research facilities across both campuses, a three-year pilot project that allows researchers to use specialized labs and equipment, strengthening research capacity and accelerating discovery across Southern Ontario.

Reminder: Call for honorary degree nominations
The Senate honorary degrees committee is inviting members of the community to nominate individuals meriting an honorary degree.

Temporary road closure: University Drive at Richmond Street gates
University Drive will be closed to vehicle traffic at the Richmond Street gates until Wed., Oct. 29 to complete underground water and sewer work for the new student residence. Vehicles can access campus via Huron and Sunset streets. The south sidewalk will remain open for pedestrian use.
