Two Grad Students Among Elite Team of Four

Under the sweltering heat of Brasília’s mid-November sun, four members of the Ravens women’s basketball team took to the international stage at the 2025 FISU 3×3 Basketball University World Cup, facing down fierce competition and securing the championship title for the first time in Canadian university history.

Ingrid Matteau, Tatyanna Burke (MBA), Dorcas Buisa and Noelle Kilbreath (MA Religion and Public Life), members of Carleton’s 2024-25 U SPORTS national championship team, reunited in Brazil’s capital to take on university teams from Spain, China and Ukraine.

The Ravens swept through all three games on the final day of competition to take home the title for the first time in program history, and the first time that a Canadian school has won the University World Cup title.

Panel on The Place of AI in the City: Intelligent Machines and the Changing Shape of Social Relationships

As our day-to-day interactions with AI become increasingly more frequent and complex, artificial systems are beginning to occupy roles that once belonged only to other humans. This panel explores what it means to relate to AI socially: whether social connections with artificial systems can be genuine, what might be missing if they are not, and how these interactions may reshape human expectations of companionship, care, and trust. Along the way, the discussion will situate these questions within a broader examination of what today’s AI systems can and cannot do, and what the future trajectory of AI might look like.

This event will be held in person at Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre on Monday, Feb. 9 from 6:30 p.m .to 9 p.m.
