Ōtaki to north of Levin update – 20 January 2023

Waka Kotahi, Muaūpoko Tribal Authority and local hapū of Ngāti Raukawa ki te Tonga are working together to create a positive legacy for the region while we build a new, safer and more reliable State Highway 1 from Ōtaki to north of Levin.

The project reached a key milestone last November when Waka Kotahi lodged Notice of Requirement and resource consent applications to the regional and district Councils. These applications reflect the key RMA approvals required to construct, operate, and maintain the Ō2NL project.

This year the project will be procuring our designers and constructors to support the delivery of our project alongside the on-going property acquisition and RMA approvals processes. Construction of the new highway is scheduled to begin in 2025.

We will be hosting a number of engagement events in the upcoming months to keep you informed as the project progresses to the next phase.

Ō2NL project speaker event – 28 January

The Ō2NL project is hosting a speaker event at Te Takeretanga o Kura-hau-pō, Levin library, 10 Bath Street, Levin on Saturday 28 January from 11am – 2pm.

Please join us to hear from technical specialists discussing:

• The RMA consents process
• Design of the proposed road, including local road connections
• Landscape and planting design
• Effects of Ō2NL and how these will be managed

Presentations will run from 11:30am-12:30pm, with the team available before and after, to answer any questions you may have.
