We were very sorry to hear that the government is not yet moving to relax the rules for outdoor youth sports participation. Unfortunately with the current groups-of-2 rule in place, all ANZA Soccer age groups have decided that Saturday sessions are not feasible. The reasons for this are:
Too few parent coaches: We would need even more volunteer parent coaches to run Saturday sessions under the groups-of-2 rule. While some are willing to try this format, others are not keen. Furthermore, some of our volunteer coaches are now unavailable due to travel. We salute all our parent coaches for considering this, and thank
them for their willingness to resume coaching once the group size is relaxed.
Rules are difficult and intimidating: Many felt it is too difficult for children and volunteer coaches to understand and abide by the current rules. With significant penalties for safe-distancing breaches a real possibility, it was considered safest to postpone resuming Saturday sessions.
Children aged 7 and younger are not suited for groups-of-2: We had already decided that our younger age groups would not resume, due to their need for greater supervision and their likelihood of inadvertently breaching the guidelines.
We hope
that the restrictions will change before long. In the meantime, until the groups-of-2 rule is changed, we will not resume our Saturday sessions. Our plan is to make up these missed sessions with additional sessions later in the season or after 23 April, 2022, when our season was scheduled to end.
Weekday Trainings are ON!
Our weekday trainings under our professional coaches are ongoing, and participants are enjoying them! We encourage you to register your players for these sessions. See the reminders below for instructions.
Thank you for your continued understanding and support. Please know that we are all frustrated by the current situation, and that we all want the kids back on the pitches, safely, as
soon as possible.
Kind regards,
ANZA Soccer Committee
