Dunedin to Christchurch

SH1 Merton south of Palmerston: Road sealing will take place from 10 to 13 November, 6 am to 7 pm. Expect delays of around 5 minutes.

SH1 Dunedin to Waitaki River Bridge (various locations): Road surface repairs from 10 to 14 November, 6 am to 7 pm. Expect delays of 5 minutes.

SH1 Dunedin to Oamaru (various locations): Road surface repairs from 10 to 14 November, 6am to 7pm. Expect delays of around 5 minutes.

SH1 south of Pukeuri: A road rebuild is underway until 19 December, Monday to Sunday, 6am to 4pm. Stop/go traffic management, lane shifts, and a 30 km/h temporary speed limit are in place. Expect delays of up to 15 minutes.

SH1 Pareora toTemuka  (north and south of Timaru): Night works will take place from 9 to 10 November, 8pm to 6am. Crews will use water cutting to improve the road surface at various locations under a mobile operation. Stop/go traffic management and temporary speed limits will be in place in stages. This work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled at short notice.

SH1 Temuka (Ewen Road intersection): Night works will take place from 9 to 13 November, from 8pm to 6am. Crews will mill and pave asphalt on SH1 King Street at the Ewen Road intersection under stop/go traffic management with a 30 km/h temporary speed limit. Expect delays of up to 10 minutes. Ewen Road will be closed during night works. Light vehicles should use alternative local streets. Heavy vehicles to and from Clandeboye and Factory Road should access SH1 via Farm Road or Rise Road. SH1 Temuka: Kerb and channel repairs are underway from 13 October to 21 November, from 7am to 6pm. Work is under with  stages of daytime stop/go traffic management with a 30 km/h temporary speed limit. This work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled at short notice. Please take care at the unattended site, which has a shoulder closure and pedestrian provisions in place.

SH1 Rolleston at the intersection with Dunns Crossing Road and Walkers Road: Night works for underground utility trenching will take place from Sunday 9 November for about two weeks, between 7pm and 5am. SH1 will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Temporary traffic lights will be used on all four approaches to the intersection with a 30km/h speed limit, expect short delays. Note there will be no work on Friday or Saturday nights, or Thursday 13 November prior to Canterbury Anniversary Day.

SH76 Christchurch Southern Motorway: Night works will run from 29 October to 18 December, 7pm to 5am. Crews are adding 4.6 km of barrier and maintenance bays between Wrights Road and Halswell Junction Road. No delays are expected.

SH1 Russley Road (between Ryans Road and Pinehurst Crescent): Night works for a Christchurch City Council water repair will take place 11 November from 6pm to 6am. Expect a single southbound lane closure.

 

 

 

Dunedin to Invercargill

SH1 Allanton: Road sealing will take place on Saturday 15 November, from 6am to 7pm. Expect delays of around 5 minutes.

SH1 Allanton: Roadside enabling work will take place from 10 to 14 November, 6 am to 7pm. Expect delays of around 5 minutes.

SH1 Clarksville Milton Highway: Road surface sealing will take place from 10 to 14 November, 6 am to 7 pm. Expect delays of around 5 minutes.

SH1 Benhar Road (north of Balclutha): Road sealing will take place from 14 to 18 November, 6am to 7pm. Expect delays of around 5 minutes.

SH1 Balclutha Bridge (south end): Asphalt repairs will take place on Sunday 9 November, and Monday 10 November between 9pm to 5am. Expect delays of up to one hour. Expect delays of up to one hour. Traffic Bulletin  

SH93 Mataura to Clinton: A road rebuild is in progress andl continue until mid-December, 7am to 7pm. Expect up to 10 minute delays.

 

 

Dunedin to Queenstown

SH8 Milton to Raes Junction (various locations): Vegetation removal from a recent high wind event will take place from 10 to 14 November, 6am to 7pm. Expect delays of around 5 minutes.

SH8 Stableburn (south of Millers Flat): A (3 km) road rebuild is underway from 28 October to 9 April 2026, weekdays  7am to 6pm, with a full holiday break from 19 December to 12 January. Expect delays of up to 10 minutes.

SH6 Kawarau Gorge (various locations): Emergency works to repair recent weather damage will take place from 9 to 16 November, 6am to 7pm. Expect delays of around 10 minutes. Crews will be on site from 7am to 6pm, Monday to Sunday. Impacts and delays require safe management 24/7, including temporary traffic management and electronic signals to control the single available traffic lane.

SH6 Cromwell to Queenstown (Nevis Bluff): Critical safety works will take place from 3 to 7 November, weekdays between 8am and 5pm, weather permitting. Stop/stop traffic management will be in place for up to 10 minutes throughout the day.  News release

 

 

Work on other key Otago highways

SH8 Bendigo (between Cromwell and Tarras): Road rebuild work to extend the life of this section of highway will take place from 9 to 16 November, Monday to Sunday, 8am to 6pm. Expect delays of up to 10 minutes.

SH85 Palmerston Dunback Road: A rebuild of the highway continues through to 19 December, Monday to Friday, 6am to 7pm. Expect delays of up to 10 minutes.

SH87 Lee Stream to Outram Road: Road surface  sealing  from 10 to 13 November, 6am to 7pm. Expect delays of around 10 minutes.

SH90 Raes Junction to Waipahi Highway (various locations): High-pressure water cutting to improve road grip and skid resistance  with work until 21 November, Monday to Saturday, 6 am to 7pm. Expect delays of around 5 minutes.
