Equestrian WA

December 16, 2021

I have recently had the privilege of being elected to the board and the honour of being appointed to the chair.

First, I would like to acknowledge the big shoes that the outgoing chair, Ron Fleming, has left to fill. Ron has invested a phenomenal amount of time and energy in guiding the organisation during a challenging and unprecedented tenure. During my relatively short time as an appointed director, Ron has managed us operationally and financially through the ongoing Covid crisis that has faced the sport, guided us through a myriad of complex issues and challenges raised by Equestrian Australia being placed in administration during 2020 and supported the equestrian community during the Wooroloo bushfire. Ron has worked enthusiastically and tirelessly, and I can only hope to give justice to his legacy.

I would also like to thank EWA CEO Dwight Pedlow and his team. Dwight and his crew have dealt with those challenges and more at the coalface. It is often a thankless role, and Dwight has selflessly led the organisation forward.

The Board of 2021 should also be recognised (Ron Fleming, Anita Marchesani, Anne Wilkins, William Newton-Wordsworth, Rory Hovell and Roslyn O’Halloran). They have all bought diversified skills, experience and opinions to the table. They have made an enormous emotional and time investment in taking on the role and made significant inroads in moving the organisation forward.  Special thanks to outgoing elected members Anita and William. I have greatly enjoyed working with you both.

And huge kudos to those sports and official committee members for their tireless efforts during the year. I was not involved in the sport very long when I realised it was more a lifestyle than a pastime.

Finally, I wish all the riders, officials, competitors, parents, owners, supporters, sponsors and others involved in the sport, a safe, happy Christmas and New Year.

Geoff Edwards
Equestrian Western Australia Inc. Chair

STATE EQUESTRIAN CENTRE - SAFE WA QR REGISTER

Just a REMINDER that anyone attending the State Equestrian Centre will be required to register their contact details upon arrival to the facilities, from Saturday 5 December 2020.

Download the Safe WA app on your phone prior to arriving at the SEC and Scan the QR codes which will be at entrances around the buildings.

Get the app HERE

If you don’t have a mobile phone a manual form will be available.

From Saturday, 5 December 2020 the Western Australian Government will be implementing a stringent COVID-19 contact tracing procedure. This is in line with the State’s relaxation of the hard border policy.

Selected businesses and venues are required to keep a contact register of ALL visitors. This includes indoor sporting centres, entertainment venues and community facilities. Equestrian WA has sought clarification on equestrian venues and have been advised that most facilities will be required to participate in the mandatory “SafeWA” QR contract tracing register.

The same hygiene, social distancing and COVID Safety Plan measures remain in place for all venues. We have again reviewed and updated the following documents to support the gradual restart of the equestrian activities in WA.

EWA gratefully acknowledges the support of the Department of Sport and LotteryWest.
