eNews October 2021

Welcome to the latest edition of Life in Mind eNews.

It has been a big month of data releases that help the suicide prevention sector to identify trends and understand risk factors, particularly for vulnerable groups. This eNews edition highlights updates from the ABS Cause of Death data, AIHW and Interim National Commissioner reports on suicide among Australian Defence Force personnel and veterans, and the ABS Multi-Agency Data Integration Project (MADIP).

Excitingly, a number of large organisations have recently signed the National Communications Charter, including Corporate Mental Health Alliance of Australia and the Eastern Health, Mental Health Program. These organisations are leading the way in supporting mental health, suicide prevention and safe communication.

This edition also features a Q&A with Life in Mind Champion, Bronwen Edwards, CEO of lived experience advocacy organisation, Roses in the Ocean. The Life in Mind team spoke to Bronwen about the critical role of lived experience in suicide prevention and importance of the National Communications Charter.
