A recent survey by one of the Chambers of Commerce found that one of the most important tasks for small and medium businesses in 2023 is to stay ahead of the tech curve and make greater use of digital tools. In fact, a whopping 84%, said they saw the need to make a greater investment in digital tools this year to work smarter and unleash their business potential including productivity.

So in the spirit of staying ahead of the tech curve, I thought I would give ChatGPT a go. Many of you will have heard about this new AI tool taking the world by storm. And my subject of choice was something the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce brings to the business community in the Hutt Valley. That is of course networking and its value.

And ChatGPT’s answer…..

Networking with the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce can provide valuable opportunities for businesses to connect and build relationships with other local businesses and industry leaders. Business Confidence In The Hutt Valley – 30-Second Survey Results

A few weeks ago, the NZIER survey said that 73 percent of businesses expect general economic conditions to deteriorate over the coming months.

But what do businesses in the Hutt Valley think? Thanks to Red Hot Business Coaching & Consultancy we asked you to have your say in our 30-second survey. Here’s what you said so far.

How do you expect business conditions to be in the next 12 months?
  • There is concern in the Hutt Valley - Nearly half of local businesses are expecting things to get worse for them in the next 6 months before improving slightly again over 12 months.

  • Optimistic outlook – Over half of local businesses are reporting that they see things being the same or better. This is seen as a more optimistic view than the NZIER survey. Whilst this optimism softens slightly 6 months out, it does start to improve again towards the end of 2023.

  • Improvement for NZ in the longer term - The number of respondents that feel ‘My Business’ and ‘NZ’ will be ‘Much or somewhat better’ in 12 months (at 28% and 32% respectively) shows some of the largest changes in optimistic sentiment for the business community.

  • Cost of doing business - The majority (73%) of businesses feel like the cost of doing business will be higher over 6 months.

How Can We Protect Lower Hutt’s Unique Wildlife, Plants, and Natural Areas?

Hutt City Council’s draft Indigenous Biodiversity Strategy will soon be released for public feedback throughout April 2023.

Come along to a short presentation about the strategy and how you can have your say, as we work together to protect and restore our natural taonga for future generations.

You can participate in sessions at the Pelorus Trust Sports House, 93 Hutt Park Road, Moera, Lower Hutt at the following times:

Applications Close In Two Days: Supporting the Manufacturing, Engineering and Logistics Industries to be Successful

Hanga-Aro-Rau Workforce Development Council (WDC) who represent the manufacturing, engineering, and logistics industries are seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) from interested industry representatives to form new National Industry Advisory Groups (NIAGs).

The NIAGs will hold a unique position supporting Hanga-Aro-Rau operations and guiding our priorities. They will be sector-specific and validate workstreams and test the thinking of new concepts and initiatives for their respective industries.

Group members would be expected to provide a specialist perspective of their sector's current and future workforce needs and help influence how Hanga-Aro-Rau better supports their sector.

Supporting New Zealand Employers

  • a financial contribution to wages and pre-employment, in-work or short-term training
  • ongoing support and advice to help new staff settle into your workplace
  • supporting candidates with a health condition or disability into work, through a financial contribution to wages, workplace modifications or on-the-job support.

Check our options like Flexi-Wage ($6,624 over 24 weeks or $9,936 over 36 weeks), or Mana in Mahi (your business may get a wage subsidy of up to $18,400). All programmes are subject to discussion with MSD.
