Detox Your Home - Cranbourne

Another successful event! This year, 169 cars visited the Chisholme Cranbourne campus pop-up. Saved from landfill and/or our drains:

  • 608 kgs of flammable liquids
  • 478kg pesticides
  • and over 100 fire extinguishers.

The toxic chemicals dropped off are immediately sorted by qualified chemists. They're then sealed in steel drums and sent to a specialist waste treatment facility.

Casey Unearthed - Hill Top Nature Reserve; a window into the pre-settlement Cranbourne landscape

Hill Top Nature Reserve is a 7.3-hectare bushland area off McMahon Avenue in Cranbourne North. An indigenous plant oasis, it's surrounded by housing developments, a future industrial park, and market gardens.

Classified as a heathy woodland, its canopy is dominated by Narrow-leaf Peppermint (Eucalyptus radiata) and Rough-barked Manna Gum (Eucalyptus viminalis pryoriana).

Flora and fauna spotlight - Swamp wallaby (Wallabia bicolor)

Swamp Wallabies are herbivores and are even able to eat some plants that are poisonous to other creatures.

Did you know? Although they look adorable, the Swamp Wallaby doesn't smell quite as sweet. This wallaby is known for its 'swampy' odour.

Edible Natives - Macadamia nuts (Macadamia integrifolia)

These nuts are high in oils and monounsaturated fats giving them a creamy texture. With a buttery flavour, they may help lower cholesterol and are great eaten raw or used in cooking.

Why not try these chunky chocolate chip cookies with macadamias that go great with a cuppa?
