Help us out and get a sneak peek at the CNC Motorway

From Monday 30 November till Friday 11 December we need help bedding in the chip. So we will be opening the CNC Motorway, one lane in each direction to off peak traffic.

      Northbound between 7am and 4pm.

      Southbound between 10am and 6pm.

Access to the new motorway is possible from SH1, Belfast Road (southbound only), QEII Drive or Cranford Street.

Due to the loose gravel a temporary 50km/h speed limit will be in place. Depending on the road condition this may be increased to 70km/h. Please follow the onsite signs and drive to the conditions. Keep a good following distance while enjoying your sneak peek of the new CNC motorway.

Pedestrians and cyclists are not allowed on the motorway just yet, you get a sneak peek on our open day, Saturday afternoon 12 December. The new shared use path will be open when we fully open the project from Thursday 17 December.

High temperatures or other issues may require the CNC Motorway to close on some days during the run-through.

NIGHT WORK
During the evening and at night , crews will work on small adjustments and improvements to finalise the project. Nearby residents will hear the noise from the machinery and the crew working at night.

SH1 update

Sealing on SH1 continues at night with SH1 traffic near the Waimakariri Bridge reduced to one lane in each direction overnight.

We are now sealing the left-hand lanes and this is progressing well.

- Chaneys off-ramp will remain closed
- Tram Road on-ramp will close overnight
- Tram Road off-ramp is fully closed for two weeks from Sunday night 22 November.

A 50km/h speed limit will be in place during the work, this will reduce to a 30km/h speed limit when the chip seal surface is new and needs to bed in. Motorcycle riders please be aware of loose gravel.

Please expect delays around the ramp areas during peak hours. Diversions will be in place. This work should not create any significant delay overnight when the work is underway. This work is weather dependent so may take longer than planned.

Night work at Innes/QEII roundabout

We have one more night of work to do at the Innes Road Roundabout. On Wednesday night 25 November. This will complete the surfacing work.

This work will involve some milling and then asphalting at the left turn slip lane from QEII Drive to Innes Road.

Traffic access to QEII Drive and left into Innes Road will still be possible, just not using the slip lane.

Nearby residents will hear the noise from the milling and asphalting machines.

The asphalting work is weather dependent so may take longer than planned.

Your not going to be the first to use the new motorway

Some of you may have thought it would be fun to be the first to use the new motorway.  Well these guys have beaten you to it.  They seemed to enjoy the taste of the landscaping too.
