The Lagmhor Road rail crossing is being upgraded as part of the SH1 Tinwald Corridor Improvements project

Project progressing well

Work to improve safety and accessibility in Tinwald is ticking along nicely with the new traffic signals expected to be switched on early next year.

So far we have widened Lagmhor Road, completed an upgrade of the nearby rail crossing, and built a new shared path on Agnes Street.

The road closure on Lagmhor Road will be lifted by the end of this week with just another small closure planned for the night of Wednesday 13 December.

We have nearly finished the resurfacing works on SH1 and expect this to be completed by the end of next week.

In the new year, we will come back and complete the final work on the SH1/Lagmhor Road/Agnes St intersection before switching our attention to the Viaduct and the Grahams Street/SH1 intersection.

An artists' impression of what the raised safety platforms will look like on Melcombe Street

Changes to Melcombe Street

A reminder that the planned work on Melcombe Street to create a safer cycle route to the Ashburton River Bridge and the rail viaduct, is now under way.

Three raised safety platforms will be installed before the end of the year, one at either end of the street and another near the middle. The platforms will be about 75mm high and flat-topped. Cyclist seperator strips have been installed in these locations.

These changes will help to keep cyclists safe and discourage vehicles from using Melcombe Street as a 'rat-run' to avoid the new traffic lights.
