Study NSW news and events New ambassador program welcomes international students to Newcastle with open arms A new international student ambassador initiative launched in Newcastle aims to foster a culture of inclusion and belonging for all international students living and studying in the Hunter region. The program, co-facilitated by the University of Newcastle together with the City of Newcastle, Study NSW, and TAFE NSW has been developed to connect international students with the community through dedicated student ambassadors. Three ambassadors have been elected to represent the voices of international students and will work closely with local government, educational institutions and the community to act as a bridge between cultures and enhance their experience living and studying in the region. Study Australia engages quality students across Africa In February, Study NSW participated in the Study Australia Education Mission to Africa. The ten-day mission, led by the Austrade and IDP Education delivered 17 events in five cities in Nigeria, Ghana and Kenya. This government and industry collaboration will drive long-term market diversification and provide opportunities for transnational education between Australia and Africa. Study NSW supported eight NSW universities who engaged with more than 1,200 students and over 100 businesses including sponsorship bodies, local universities, international education agents, high school counsellors and businesses. Connect with international students in VietnamExpressions of interest are now open for NSW-based organisations to meet with prospective international students in Vietnam. This initiative is led by the NSW Government Vietnam Office in partnership with Study NSW. The Showcase will be held from 9-11 September 2024 in Hanoi and 12-14 September 2024 in Ho Chi Minh City. Diversify and attract quality students in LATAMExpressions of interest are now open for NSW-based organisations to meet with prospective international students in Columbia, Peru and Chile. Study NSW is partnering with the Wharton Group to deliver the Expo Vente Australia. The Expo will be held in Bogota, Colombia on Saturday 26 October, Lima, Peru on Saturday, 2 November and Santiago, Chile on Tuesday 5 November. Plan your nominations for the 2024 NSW International Education AwardsThe annual NSW International Education Awards will be held on Wednesday 6 November in Sydney. Nominations will open in June on the Study NSW website. We encourage international education stakeholders to start planning for the nomination process. New Homestay Symposium to be held in SydneyStudy NSW is supporting the inaugural NEAS Homestay Symposium on Friday 22 March in Sydney. The Symposium will foster sector collaboration, share best practices, address common issues and drive business opportunities between homestay service providers and education stakeholders. Industry news and opportunities Study Australia International School Counsellors Series back for 2024Join Austrade for the next session professional development series for international school counsellors on Wednesday 27 March, 4pm-5pm. Gain valuable insights into Generation Alpha's worldview, including an understanding of what communities mean to our students, how to align with wider Gen Alpha narratives, and develop new strategies for engaging with evolving generational behaviours. Applications open for Australia Awards ScholarshipsThe Australian Government has opened applications for 2025 Australia Awards Scholarships. The scholarships provide the opportunity for individuals from a selection of developing countries to undertake full-time undergraduate or postgraduate study at participating Australian universities. NEAS Conference explores quality revolution in English Language TeachingThe 2024 NEAS Conference will be held on 9 and 10 May at Aerial UTS Function Centre in Sydney. The conference theme is Quality Revolution: Rethinking, Reshaping, and Redefining Excellence in English Language Teaching. Experts and professionals in the English language sector are encouraged to register. Study NSW is proud to be sponsoring this year’s conference. Government programs and updates Opportunities for international alumni to expand technology business in AustraliaThe NSW Government is offering free temporary co-working office accommodation to eligible technology businesses expanding into Australia through the International Landing Pad. Register to attend the information session on Thursday 28 March at 4pm AEDT. New digital hub for NSW visitor economyDestination NSW has launched a new corporate website that provides a dynamic digital hub for visitor economy stakeholders seeking the latest research, information, tools and resources to support their growth. Visit the website to access information on major event investment, industry and business events, latest marketing campaigns and partner toolkits and a newsroom with media releases and updates. Grants and programs help NSW businesses growDid you know Investment NSW provides access to grants, funding and assistance programs to help NSW business succeed or recover? Visit the Investment NSW website to learn about current programs including Social Impact Pre-Accelerator Program, Female Founders Program and MVP Ventures Program. Student spotlight Inspiring future psychiatrist: Indonesian student Jennifer finds purpose in NSW's healthcare opportunitiesJennifer is a student from Indonesia completing a medicine degree at Western Sydney University. Jennifer chose NSW for its easy access to her home country and its wealth of opportunities in healthcare. During her studies, Jennifer gained valuable insights into the importance of mental health. She plans to specialise her studies in psychiatry before returning home to make a difference in Jakarta’s mental health space. “Be open to meeting new people and trying different things, even if you don’t think they’re for you.” What's on
