From 11:59 pm on Friday, 11 March, the isolation period for positive cases and household contacts was reduced from 10 to seven (7) days. Evidence also shows that the risk of re-infection within the first three months after someone has Omicron is very low. For this reason, recovered cases will no longer need to isolate again if they become a household contact within 90 days of having the virus. As COVID-19 spreads around the community, it has had a significant impact on staffing, and it may be difficult to get relievers. Alternative options could be to reduce your operating hours or ask some whānau to keep their tamariki home for a period of time if possible, so you can continue to offer care for those who need it. As always, you will need to do a risk assessment to determine what’s best for your Kōhanga Reo. The safety and wellbeing of mokopuna remains paramount. If the impact of COVID-19 measures on your staffing means you cannot open safely, then you will be eligible to apply for Emergency Closure funding. MoE has confirmed we should only consider using the Close Contact Exemption Scheme (to bring back critical staff who are symptomatic household contacts) if there are no other options to care for those mokopuna who need to attend. Supporting Mokopuna and Kaimahi to Return In Phase 3, cases and household contacts will not be provided with an official release notification following the end of their period of isolation. Reminder: Booster vaccine requirements As detailed in previous bulletins, everyone who is covered by the mandatory vaccination requirements must have had their booster by Tuesday, 1 March, or no later than 183 days after their second vaccine. As previously advised, this means that:
