Petone to Melling Cycleway Update

Work is progressing well on the Pito-One (Petone) to Melling section of Te Ara Tupua. Recently all of the retaining walls on the main cycleway route (between the rail and SH2) were completed. We have now started on foundations for the fencing and light poles.

Work continues on the underpasses at Parliament Street and south of Petone Station. With all piling activity completed and the piling rig disestablished, the ramps are being dug out and the accessways to the underpasses taking shape.

In 2022 we will start work within the Petone Station parking area. We will keep you informed when this work is due to begin.

Temporary traffic changes remaining in place

In June this year we advised of traffic management changes on SH2 (southbound) and on Parliament Street. These changes will remain in place during the early months of 2022.

Temporary traffic changes

One-way system on Parliament Street (northbound only) with a southbound detour using Herbert Street and Laery Street.

Narrowed lanes and shoulder on SH2 southbound, with a temporary speed limit in place.

An optional alternative route for cycling, suggested for those who wish to avoid the narrowed southbound shoulder.

These changes remain in place as we are continuing to work on the project’s northern rail underpass. We will keep you informed about when these roads will be reopened as usual.
