Albany’s iconic walking and cycling bridge opens

Tirohanga Whānui, a new walking and cycling bridge over the Northern Motorway, was opened with a dawn blessing this morning. The bridge gives communities an iconic connection over the motorway and directly into Albany as part of the Northern Corridor Improvements project. If also features a new watermain installed by Watercare under the bridge deck.

Looking ahead in 2019

Work is back underway on all of our sites for what we expect will be another very busy year for the project. Equestrian facilities at Wainoni Park are nearly complete and will be opened within the next couple of months. It is one of three sports facilities which are being relocated and improved as part of the project.

Ongoing work for the busway extension, additional lanes on SH1, and the world class facility for North Harbour Hockey will continue with the pavilion scheduled for completion in late 2019.

Unsworth Drive exit on SH18 closed

The off-ramp from SH18 at Unsworth Drive closed on Sunday 17 February and will not re-open.

The exit closed so that major work can start to upgrade SH18 into a motorway which will improve connections between SH1 and SH18 and provide more travel choices.

What this means for you?

Drivers will still be able to turn off SH18 into Unsworth Heights, either at the earlier Caribbean Drive intersection or by taking the next off ramp on to the Albany Highway and turning left from there into Unsworth Drive.
