Greetings friends and colleagues,

It's an exciting time for PCSD/WCSD. We are thrilled to have launched our very first impact report along with two new websites. Our impact report highlights three of our school partners.

We have featured another one of our long-time partners, Equitas Academy, who focused on meeting the needs of their community during the pandemic and continue to support them today.

We recently welcomed our newest PCSD/WCSD team member, Annegret Nautsch, who joins us as Project Manager in the Seattle office. And congratulations to Eric Johnson who was appointed chair of the PCSD board.

We have been enjoying reconnecting with colleagues and partners, first at the California Charter Schools Conference (CCSA) in Long Beach, California in March and then at the National Charter Schools Conference (NCSC22) in Washington, DC in June.

Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Warmly,

John Sun

SCHOOL HIGHLIGHT: Equitas Academy Charter Schools

Equitas Academy Charter Schools, a Los Angeles-based charter management organization and long-time partner of PCSD, has been an integral part of the Pico Union community from day one. This became even more apparent over the last two years.

“During the pandemic, we felt it was important to meet the basic needs of our families. As soon as we closed down, we were able to serve 200,000 meals by the end of the 2019-2020 school year. In addition, we delivered technology, computers, and internet access. Education is the heart of our mission, but students can’t learn if their most basic needs aren’t met,” said Cecilia Melgares, Managing Director of Operations.
