Recent data reveals significant increases in anxiety and depression among children, coupled with a decrease in physical activity and caregiver well-being across the United States. In response, the California Quality Collaborative is launching the Behavioral Health Integration – Children and Youth Collaborative Learning Exchange. Inside CHOC Children's Well Spaces: School-Based Mental Health in Youth with CQC Steering Committee Member Dr. Mike Weiss![]() As a key longtime member of the CQC Steering Committee, Dr. Mike Weiss, Vice President of Population Health at Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), provides strategic direction and leadership to CQC's initiatives. At CHOC, Dr. Weiss’ team leads the innovative Well Spaces program, a proactive approach to tackling youth mental health challenges within the school environment. Operational in 40 schools, the Well Spaces program fosters calming, nature-inspired environments staffed by social workers and counselors, equipped for activities like yoga and mindfulness. These spaces aim to reduce stress, boost student engagement and facilitate seamless care coordination to help students reintegrate into school life after mental health treatment visits to the emergency department or mental health unit. Transforming Primary Care Delivery: The Payment Model Demonstration Project![]() Recognizing that small practices often face misaligned incentives and inadequate resources, the California Advanced Primary Care Initiative's Payment Model Demonstration Project aims to transform primary care delivery. Participating primary care providers will receive the support to boost revenue via technical assistance and improved data exchange—equipping them to deliver high-quality patient care and achieve better outcomes.
