From the Yackandandah Visitor Information Centre
Hello Yack, As we celebrate National Volunteer Week, it’s a wonderful opportunity to recognise the incredible volunteers who help keep our communities thriving. From local events and visitor information to community groups, sporting clubs and various other organisations, volunteers are truly the heart of Yackandandah and Beechworth. Their generosity, local knowledge and willingness to give their time create the warm and welcoming experience that both locals and visitors value so highly. We thank every volunteer for the important role they play in keeping our towns connected, vibrant and full of community spirit. Good news for locals and visitors - recent water quality testing at the Allans Flat Waterhole confirms the water is once
again safe, with the recent bloom now cleared. Warning signs have been removed, and routine testing will recommence when warmer weather returns.
Have a wonderful fortnight ahead.

Tourism Australia unveils new industry-wide initiative for Responsible TourismTourism Australia has launched Green is Our Gold, a new national sustainability initiative designed to unite the tourism industry around a shared commitment to protecting Australia’s natural environments, cultures and communities. The initiative invites tourism and business events organisations to adopt the Green and Gold Promise and align with five guiding principles for responsible visitor behaviour: Celebrate Community, Embrace Culture, Preserve Place, Respect Wildlife and Take Care. The initiative responds to growing consumer and industry demand for sustainable tourism. Tourism Australia research shows sustainability influences travel choices for 70% of travellers, while 77% consider it important in their everyday lives. Sustainability credentials are also a key factor for business events, with 76% of incentive decision makers ranking them as a significant driver of destination choice. Announced at Tourism Australia’s Destination Australia conference in Melbourne, Green is Our Gold builds on strong sustainability foundations already in place across the industry. By aligning industry action with consumer messaging, the initiative aims to strengthen Australia’s global reputation as a leader in responsible travel.
