Principal's Message

Dear Families,

I have made my way into each classroom over the last week and have spent time with the children as they tell me about themselves, ask questions about me and as I continue to learn their names. They are very patient and a pleasure to spend time with.

As we move into the second week of term we have received notification that we have several cases of Covid in the school.  The positive aspect of this news is that the 48 hour infectious period was over the weekend.  Our two cases were asymptomatic and it was only picked up after the Monday morning RA Test.  Over the coming days and weeks please monitor your child for any symptoms of Covid.  Please remember to keep RA Testing on a Monday and Thursday each week.  If you suspect your child  may have Covid please use your RA Test to confirm on any other day.

If your child returns a positive result after administering a RA Test, you will need to:

  • quarantine your child for seven days

  • advise the school about the positive result

  • Your child must stay home until their symptoms have resolved and they are well

  • Everyone in your household is a close contact and must isolate for 7 days.

  • It is not necessary to take another RA Test before returning to school as your child will test positive for 30days.

  • Notify the VicEd COVID Tool.

As advised by the Chief Health Officer, children over the age of 8 are required to wear masks unless they have a medical exemption.  We do not have enough supply to give children a mask every day.  We have a small supply for emergencies therefore we ask that your child bring a mask from home each day.

A reminder about children wearing the correct school uniform.  The children have a lovely uniform and wear it with pride. Children have had a gentle reminder from their classroom teachers in regard to wearing their correct uniform, including shoes.  Some children may have grown out of their current uniform, lost jumpers or hats or just need to replace current pieces. A reminder that students that must be wearing black, polishable shoes or runners. Sally, our uniform shop coordinator, is in the school on a Tuesday and a Friday and is very happy to help with your uniform needs.

Tonight our first Parent Teacher meetings commence for 2022.  Parents have had the opportunity to make appointments for this afternoon, tomorrow or  Wednesday afternoon from 3:30pm - 5.00pm.  Interviews go for 10 minutes and you will receive a link from your child’s teacher if you haven’t already done so. This is a great opportunity for you to share all the wonderful things about your child to help us get to know them better and ensure continued engagement and success on their learning journey.  I encourage all families to make a time.  This year the meetings will be held remotely using Google Meets. If you are having trouble refer back to the email Kathering King sent to all families last week with step by step directions.

Swimming Trials are going ahead at the pool this Wednesday the 9th Feb only for students from Years 3-6 who can swim 50m confidently.  All of our Year 6 students are going as they will be helping with the timing and record keeping in light of parents being unable to attend.  This is a great opportunity for them to show responsibility and leadership.

Today we have workmen in the school preparing the site for the new shade sail to be installed. The new sail will cover another area of the playground to the side of the prep classroom and adds another outdoor space that can be used for learning and playing under.  This has been funded by a State Government grant open to all schools during these Covid times.

We are currently in the process of organising a new supplier for our lunch orders.  We sent out an expression of interest notification on Facebook last week.  If you did not see this and are interested please contact the school.  You must have the correct accreditation/insurance and food handling qualifications to provide this service.  We will let you know when this is finalised and when lunch orders will once again be available.

Until next week

Therese

Religious Education - Week 2 Prayer

The Prayer of the Community

As disciples of Jesus we are called to live a life of discipleship.

To speak out for peace when nations and groups still seek to settle differences through conflict.  To speak out for tolerance when ethnic groups are discriminated against in obvious and hidden ways. To work for change when young people are at a loose end.  To stand with the downtrodden who find it hard to make their crying needs known.
As contemporary disciples of Jesus, we respond to the call.

For the Oppressed ...

As disciples of Jesus we are called to live a life of discipleship.

To speak out for justice when some of humankind are starving or cruelly repressed. To search out those ignored and bypassed by authority figures in the social service and medical fields. To support hard-pressed helpers of the suffering. To stand beside those who are unexpectedly sick, or chronically ill, and encourage them.
As contemporary disciples of Jesus, we respond to the call.

For the Church ...

As disciples of Jesus we are called to live a life of discipleship.

To think “outside the box” when it comes to offering prayer and praise. To be open to fresh ways of interpreting God’s Word. To speak of another way to persons who have closed their minds to God’s love.  To go beyond local and accepted boundaries in the way and name of Jesus Christ.                                  As contemporary disciples of Jesus, we respond to the call.

For Ourselves ...

As disciples of Jesus we are called to live a life of discipleship.

Our self-serving replaced by sharing. Our indifference replaced by concern.
Our grudge-keeping replaced by forgiveness. Our local vision replaced by a worldwide vision. Our hatred replaced by love.
As contemporary disciples of Jesus, we respond to the call.
