SH2 Remutaka Hill Update and May Closures |

May 2026 Night ClosuresThe SH2 Remutaka Hill will close for 10 nights, between 9pm and 4am, from Sunday 3 to Thursday 7 May and Sunday 10 to Thursday 14 May. During these closures crews will complete a drainage work, sign replacements, pavement repairs, graffiti removal, mowing, weed spraying and line marking. Escorted crossing times this month
Please be patient - the crossings will be slow for everyone's safety. Access will be available for 'flashing light' emergency services throughout the closure. Road crews can complete a large amount of work safely during these closures, because multiple crews can work across the hill at the same time without disrupting traffic. Escorted Crossing UpdateAs of May 2026 a booking is no longer required for ecorted crossings. Instead, all you need to do is arrive at one of our scheduled crossing times. Please arrive 15 minutes early at the closure point for the scehduled crossing times. Escorted crossings are for light vehicles only, not heavy vehicles. Remutaka Hill Bridge 2 repairsPermanent repairs have been completed to the bridge on the Featherston side of Remutaka Hill, following the damage sustained during the storm this week. We would like to assure everyone that the road is safe to drive on. To better protect the bridge from future flood damage and improve overall reslilience, there will be some off-road works to the river (near the bridge). We are awaiting engineer assessmets to inform us exactly what extra work will be required. We will provide updates when we know more. |
